Care worker, 69, jailed for sexually abusing disabled patient in Kent

A care worker has been jailed for sexually abusing a severely disabled patient in Kent.

Kent Police said Naguib Lootfun, 69, from Maidstone, abused a vulnerable patient while working for an assisted living facility.

Colleagues found an empty condom wrapper in a bedroom at the facility on 8 May, after Lootfun had worked a night shift.

He claimed the wrapped had fallen out of his pocket as he worked, but was suspended while an investigation was carried out.

A used condom was found in a bin bag inside the care home the next day, and Lootfun was arrested on suspicion of rape.

Later, a second used condom was found in the waste bin area outside, and an examination of DNA linked Lootfun to the offences.

Lootfun initially denied allegations of sexual abuse but later admitted to having sex with the victim, who was unable to consent.

He was convicted at Maidstone Crown Court on 9 July. Lootfun was then sentenced to 11 years and ordered to serve an extra four years on licence on Wednesday.

Kent Police Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kimber said the 69-year-old “completely abused his position of trust and committed abhorrent acts against a vulnerable person”.

In a statement, he added: “He knowingly took advantage of the victim’s vulnerabilities and even fabricated an excuse for the evidence pre-emptively, to cover his tracks.

“The judge recognised Lootfun as a dangerous offender, and he will therefore be required to serve at least two thirds of his sentence before he will be able to apply for parole.

“I hope it brings some comfort and closure to all those involved with this case to know that Lootfun will be serving a significant custodial sentence and will be unable to cause further harm.”
