Bull Doza fightwear goes from strength to strength
Fast growing producer Bull Doza has its customers hooked on fightwear that’s beating the opposition both on price and innovation. Founded by entrepreneur and martial artist Nathaniel Doza four years ago, his online venture has gone from strength to strength to become a retail powerhouse renowned for its super-size and fighter specific equipment.
Delivered in flat pack formats this makes it as easy as possible for clients whose ages range from 25 to 60. Among the knockout successes are a water-filled punch bag and a bullet punch one with a sloped underside that replicates human ribs making it ideal for striking and its six bull face panels an excellent canvas for precision hitting.
For defensive training there is the Slip Dodge bag, very popular among UK and German customers, which teaches boxers how to avoid being hit while UK-sourced recycled rubber provides an eco-friendly punch bag filler that creates a more realistic experience. With the rubber available in manageable size packs, clients can then build a bag for their particular needs that they can adapt over time. To cope with demand nine core products are pre-made with variations if required and the business is expanding its accessories range which includes pads, mitts, a hanging strap and a cool grappling dummy.
Product durability is tested by “us literally running over the item with a JCB, digger or a car,” declares Doza who sells through Amazon and whose individual clients from across the UK and Europe. Gyms have also started to come on board too.
It was the classic gap-in-the-market insight that prompted Doza to launch the business, he explains. “I couldn’t find a punch bag to suit my needs so I created one and realised it could work for others too. Since then we have gradually upgraded but always keeping overheads to a minimum despite growth being crazy.” Sales between year one and two multiplied five-fold and now the company is forecasting a £2 million turnover for 2025/26 and £10 million in 2027/8 if external investment happens, the range is expanded to some 30 products and Bull Doza enters the US market and aims for Australia too.
The company has a team of four and outsources picking, packing and shipping to a logistics operation in Essex.“Time is our greatest adversary,” says Doza who has found the support of Your ECommerce Accountant invaluable. Its founder Ben Sztejka observes: “What turned this from a good product to a good business was Nathaniel’s desire to understand his numbers. To know which type of punch bags were the ones customers wanted and ultimately made a profit.
“We showed him the importance of understanding the profitability of each product and how it impacts his business. He could then cull products which were not contributing to profit and then continually monitor the performance of his advertising and product profitability. By learning this discipline he has been able to take a great product and grow it into a successful business.”
Doza’s modest start involved committing £40,000 of his own savings from previous jobs. “I didn’t come from money and left home at 16,” he reflects. “All the effort is sweat equity, I’m in it for the long haul.”
