Boy stabbed to death outside UK primary school pictured for first time
A Birmingham teenager stabbed to death outside a busy row of shops has been pictured for the first time alongside his “best friend” mum.
The 17-year-old, named locally as Reuben, was found with “life-threatening injuries” following the incident on Station Road in Solihull at 6:20pm on Tuesday, October 29.
Despite the best efforts of medics, the teenager tragically died at the scene, after which a murder investigation was launched. A boy, also aged 17, was arrested by West Midlands Police on suspicion of murder and later bailed, Birmingham Live reports.
Common Bond, an independent non-profit that says it supports families failed by children’s services, has set up a GoFundMe page.
The independent organisation was started by Reuben’s mom, Sarah, and the group set up the crowdfunding to show her solidarity and support.
At the time of writing the fundraiser has raised £1,385 raised of its £2,000 target to support funeral expenses.
A spokesperson for Common Bond spokesperson told BirminghamLive: “Reuben was polite, funny, very kind, an amazing brother and son. Him and his mother were the best of friends. He was everything she could wish for and more.”
The fundraiser page said: “We are an organisation founded by Reuben’s mum, we know she spends her time working to support others and we would like to offer that support back to help with time off work her other children and towards funeral costs.
“Please help us to support her after such a tragic loss,” it added.
A photo from the scene showed a blue tent in Marston Green where the attack took place.
Superintendent Wayne Carter of Solihull Police previously said: “We know people will understandably be concerned” as police remained in the area conducting enquiries.
“We will have extra officers in the area over the coming days and I would encourage anyone with any information, or concerns, to get in touch,” he said.
“Our thoughts remain firmly with the victim’s family and loved ones at this truly tragic time.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote log 4239 29/10/24.
