Boxer Anthony Joshua apologised for doing 44mph in a 30mph zone, blaming his extreme training regime for his error.

Joshua, 34, told court officials his regime may have led to a lapse in concentration that led to him speeding after being caught by a Sussex Police officer in his Range Rover Vogue.

The athlete wrote to the court saying he understood the importance of road safety, and consequences of speeding.

Anthony Joshua was defeated by Daniel Dubois on Saturday night in front of 96,000 people at Wembely Stadium.

The athlete, who said he will ‘bounce back’ from his loss has rejected any talk of retirement, and is already plotting his return to the ring.

‘I am a professional athlete, currently in the middle of a very intense training camp,’ Joshua told the court.

‘My schedule has been extremely demanding, and I was travelling to or from a training session at the time and date of the offence.

‘The physical and mental fatigue from my training may have clouded my judgement, leading to this lapse in concentration.

‘I recognise that such circumstances do not justify speeding, and I deeply regret allowing myself to make this error.’

The boxer was ordered to pay a £769 fine, with £90 costs and a £308 victim surcharge, totalling £1,176, the Evening Standard reported.

Joshua, who was dealt with by Hastings Magistrates’ Court, was also given four points on his license, but was not banned from driving.

In further court documents, Joshua said: ‘I would like to respectfully ask the court to consider the potential impact of extra penalty points, which could lead to a driving ban, on my career.

‘As an athlete, I rely heavily on my ability to drive to and from training sessions, which are often at locations that are difficult to reach.’
