Alton Towers ride chaos as fire sparks second evacuation in three days

A popular ride at Alton Towers has sparked chaos once again with a second evacuation in just three days.

Smoke can be seen pouring from The Wicker Man ride at the Stoke-on-Trent amusement park this afternoon, just days after the same issue occurred on Saturday.

Footage shows orange flames inside the ride with a plume of grey smoke spewing from the ride.

One visitor said: “You can’t make this up, the fire alarm has triggered again!”

Another person commented on social media: “Wicker Man at Alton Towers being evacuated due to a fire alarm.” Another commented: “You can’t make this up, the fire alarm has triggered again.”

The two failures in recent days come after there was also a similar issue back in July.

After the failure on Saturday, an eyewitness told Express.co.uk: “No one [was] allowed near it… entire paths cleared, no one was allowed to get their bags.”

They added that staff were telling visitors: “This has never happened before.”

Some had been queueing for hours when the evacuation was ordered, angering many.

The eyewitness later claimed that the ride was reopened for 20 minutes before the fire alarm went off yet again.

A spokesperson for Alton Towers said following Saturday’s evacuation: “Following the activation of the fire alarm our teams followed normal procedures. Nothing of concern was found at the ride following our investigations. Our technical teams are working to reset the fire alarm.

“The safety of our guests is our number one priority and therefore we paused the ride and evacuated the queue line, as is our standard health and safety procedure.”
