All flights to and from Edinburgh airport have been grounded following an ‘IT issue’ at air traffic control.

A spokesperson for the airport said that engineers have been working to resolve the issue.

‘Passengers should check their flight status with their airline before travelling to the airport,’ the statement posted on X said.

Passengers were first alerted of flights being suspended at around 3.55pm today, Sunday December 15, before the airport said an update would be issued at 4.30pm.

A spokesperson confirmed at 4.40pm that engineers were continuing to work to fix the problem.

Photographs shared at the airport show passengers queuing inside the terminal, after finding out that all flights to and from the airport have been grounded.

At least 30 flights have been cancelled so far, with several others diverted to Manchester and Glasgow.

Others flights are estimated to depart after 6.30pm.

The airport is expected to face further delays in the lead up to Christmas, it is reported.

Edinburgh Airport’s North Air fuel tanker drivers are planning a three-week walk out in a pay dispute.

North Air is the only fuel company that supplies airlines that fly out of Edinburgh.

The industrial action is projected to begin at 5am on December 18, and end at 4.59am on January 6.
