Three under-the-radar games to watch in CFB Week 6

College football fans will, rightly, be watching high-profile Week 6 matchups like No. 9 Missouri vs. No. 25 Texas A&M and Auburn vs. No. 5 Georgia.

However, there are always some games that fly under the radar that offer some intrigue. We’re here to break a few of those down and offer why you should pay attention to them this weekend.

Syracuse vs. No. 25 UNLV

Friday night’s matchup will be UNLV’s first real big test of the post-Matthew Sluka controversy. The transfer quarterback decided to abruptly redshirt and leave the program after an NIL promise was allegedly reneged by an assistant coach.

In Week 5, the Rebels cruised over Fresno State 59-14, scoring more points with backup passer Hajj-Malik Williams than Sluka did in each of his three starts.

Adding a little extra spiciness to the bout, Syracuse was actually paid $300,000 to travel to Las Vegas for this game. The pressure will surely be on the undefeated Rebels, who currently threaten No. 21 Boise State as the potential highest-ranked conference champion to qualify for the expanded College Football Playoff.

Navy vs. Air Force

In the first leg of the Commander in Chief Trophy series, undefeated Navy will be looking to gain its first advantage over fierce rival Army in the inter-service academy competition. The Midshipmen feature the darkest of dark horses for the Heisman trophy in quarterback Blake Horvath, who leads the team in not only passing (637 yards, seven TDs) but also rushing (450 yards, eight TDs).

Despite being 1-3 entering the contest, Air Force will be hoping that the “look good, play good” adage rings true for them on Saturday. The team will debut new uniforms honoring Air Force Special Operations Command as part of its Air Power Legacy Series.

Navy has lost the last four meetings with Air Force, but a win would be a huge step in the direction of not only winning the CIC Trophy (the Midshipmen have won it 11 of the last 12 times it has beaten the Falcons) but also entering the College Football Playoff conversation as a candidate for the Group of Five champion’s auto-bid.

Rutgers vs. Nebraska

The Cornhuskers may have dropped out of the AP rankings, but this Big Ten matchup could be an elimination game of sorts for either program wanting to be a dark horse for the College Football Playoff.

Rutgers running back Kyle Monangai sits fifth among all rushers so far this season and will be looking to lead the undefeated Scarlet Knights to a fifth-straight win and their first all-time against Nebraska.

Freshman passer Dylan Raiola made early waves for the Cornhuskers but has dropped off slightly, which is expected for a 19-year-old phenom. But with both programs looking to turn corners from disappointing past performances, something’s going to have to give on Saturday.
