Three teams that need free-agent WR Tee Higgins the most

It’s not often that you see star wide receivers available in free agency in the NFL, but this offseason, Tee Higgins is set to hit the open market. 

Though the Bengals will be eager to bring him back to Cincinnati, many teams will be ready to offer a hefty sum to lure him away.

The Bengals star would be a great addition to any team, but there are a few teams in particular that would be good fits for Higgins and have the resources to make it happen.

New England Patriots

If Higgins were to leave Cincinnati, the Patriots would be the top contender to land him. With a boatload of cap space, New England can afford to overpay to add a high-level receiver to an offense that desperately needs it.

The Patriots have their quarterback of the future in Drake Maye, who had an encouraging rookie year. Now, this offseason is about making the investments necessary to put him in a position to succeed, and adding Higgins would be a significant step in that direction.

Los Angeles Chargers

While the Chargers spending big money on a receiver would be unexpected, it’s a move that would significantly raise the ceiling of their offense. While Quentin Johnston showed flashes in his sophomore season, he’s too inconsistent to rely on to produce game-to-game at this stage of his career.

Adding Higgins to this offense would strengthen the wide receiver group. He has had multiple productive seasons and recently turned 26, so it’s more likely that he will maintain that output throughout a four or five-year deal.

The other element that would make this an intriguing addition to Los Angeles is how well Higgins’ skill set would complement Ladd McConkey. Higgins is a complete receiver, but most notably, he provides a solid catch radius and contested catch ability, which would be an ideal complement to what McConkey provides as a phenomenal separator who can create after the catch.

If it chooses, Los Angeles has the resources to make a big splash signing. Entering free agency, the team has the sixth-most cap space in the NFL at $64.7 million.

Green Bay Packers

Last season, the wide receiver group for the Packers was among the NFL’s most disappointing. 

With Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks all on the roster entering the season, it looked like WR would be a strength for Green Bay. However, none were consistent enough to be considered a reliable No. 1 receiver.

A potential solution to that issue would be adding Higgins. Having someone who can be relied upon to produce and make plays in big moments would make it much more manageable to overcome the rest of the group’s poor performances.

Making this move would be risky as Higgins has missed time with injuries over the past two seasons, but Green Bay has a talented roster that is not far off from being a Super Bowl contender. If it has a strong offseason, this could be a worthwhile gamble.
