Now that the Jets have officially made their decision to move forward without Aaron Rodgers, two possible options are remaining for the future Hall of Famer.
And while Rodgers could still decide to retire, many expect his desire to play to only intensify based on the disappointment of his Jets tenure.
So, if Rodgers does indeed want to continue his career, here are some possible destinations that would make sense for the four-time NFL MVP.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Just as they were when Rodgers was available in the past, the Steelers are once again a team heavily discussed as being a fit for the veteran signal-caller. Rodgers has even brought up his respect for head coach Mike Tomlin in the past.
“There’s only one Mike Tomlin, first and foremost, and you have to give Mike credit. He’s got the special sauce,” Rodgers said during a December appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “He seems to understand how to motivate his guys every single year.”
For the second consecutive offseason, Pittsburgh also finds itself dealing with instability at the quarterback position and the possibility the whole room could be turned over once again. If Russell Wilson won’t be back, will the Steelers view Rodgers as a veteran option who still has enough left to help a team looking to get over the hump in the playoffs?
While the price may have been too high a couple of years ago via a trade, it’s possible Rodgers’ value could be low enough that the Steelers see him now as a low-risk type of move and maybe a bridge before finding their next franchise guy.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans haven’t had a superstar quarterback since the late Steve McNair was winning an MVP and guiding Tennessee to the franchise’s only Super Bowl. Whenever the Titans have had recent success, they have been guided by the ground game.
But now that it seems clear Will Levis isn’t the answer, some believe Rodgers could be a nice stopgap for a year until Tennessee can draft another quarterback of the future.
Even though he’s not at his MVP level of the past, Rodgers’ play in 2024 would still be a significant upgrade — Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns — for a Titans team that is coming off a miserable 3-14 season.
Cleveland Browns
Rodgers may see retirement as better than experiencing a year with the Browns, but much like with the Titans, he would instantly be an upgrade compared to the mess at quarterback Cleveland has dealt with since moving on from Baker Mayfield.
And with Deshaun Watson likely out for all of 2025 and most fans hoping to never see him on the field wearing a Browns uniform again, Rodgers could provide a bit more hope for a starving fan base.
San Francisco 49ers
This is a more surprising move since Brock Purdy made a Super Bowl appearance in the 2023 season, but this is the time the 49ers need to decide if they want to invest in him.
And if San Francisco decides Purdy is not the long-term answer, Rodgers could help a receiver room that may be dealing with some big changes.
Rodgers in a 49ers uniform would also bring his career full circle. San Francisco famously passed on the California product in the 2005 NFL Draft. Even though Rodgers would become a legend in Green Bay, he did suffer multiple postseason defeats to the 49ers along the way.
The Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts are other teams to watch for Rodgers.
