UK Eurovision winner dies aged 77

Martin Lee, the lead vocalist and guitarist for the British pop group Brotherhood Of Man, has died at the age of 77.  

The four-piece group won the Eurovision Song Contest for the UK in 1976 with the song ‘Save Your Kisses For Me’. 

A post on the group’s Facebook page today confirmed the news: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our great friend and colleague Brotherhood of Man’s Martin Lee who slipped peacefully away on the evening of Sunday 29 September 2024 from heart failure after a short illness.”

His bandmates Lee Sheridan, Sandra Stevens and Nicky Stevens shared: “Over the past 50 years the four of us have toured the world together in harmony and have so many happy memories, but now we are in total shock and cannot imagine a world without Martin Lee.”

Brotherhood Of Man topped the UK singles chart with ‘Save Your Kisses For Me’, and the song reached number one in more than 30 countries. It became one of the best-selling Eurovision singles in the contest’s history.

The band released a total of 18 albums, the most recent of which came out in 2002 – ‘The Seventies Story’.

Other hit singles by the band include ‘Angelo’, ‘Figaro’, ‘United We Stand’ and ‘Kiss Me Kiss Your Baby’.

The band continued to perform all over Europe until their retirement in 2020.

Martin is survived by his wife, Brotherhood Of Man’s Sandra Stevens, and his daughter from a previous marriage.
