Trump’s comments about Liz Cheney ‘must be disqualifying,’ Harris says
Vice President Kamala Harris criticised Donald Trump’s recent comments about Liz Cheney as disqualifying for his presidential campaign.
Donald Trump’s recent comments about former congresswoman Liz Cheney should be considered disqualifying for his presidential campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris said on Friday.
At an event late Thursday in Arizona with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Trump was asked whether it was strange to see Cheney campaign against him.
Trump called Cheney “a deranged person” and added: “But the reason she couldn’t stand me is that she always wanted to go to war with people. If it were up to her we’d be in 50 different countries.”
“She’s a radical war hawk. Let’s put her with the rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her. OK, let’s see how she feels about it. You know, when the guns are trained on her face.” the former president continued.
Trump posted on his social media network that he was making a point about Cheney’s foreign policy record.
Former congresswoman has vocally opposed Trump since the attack on the US Capitol on 6 January 2021. Recently, she endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris and has appeared at events with her to reach out to Republicans who are dissatisfied with Trump.
Harris told reporters at the airport in Madison that she had not talked with Cheney since Trump’s comments.
Harris and Trump will host dueling rallies on Friday in the Milwaukee area as part of a final push for votes in swing-state Wisconsin.
Milwaukee is home to the most Democratic votes in Wisconsin, but its conservative suburbs are where most Republicans live and are a critical area for Trump as he tries to reclaim the state he narrowly won in 2016 and lost in 2020.
