The €170k AI ‘girlfriend’ and the other weird tech at CES 2025

Innovation can create some life-changing products and others that might not be necessary, as we found out this week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is wrapping up and as well as showing off the technology from tech powerhouses such as Nvidia, Samsung, and BMW, there are also a lot of odd products on the show floor.

Here are a few of the things that caught our eye.

Robot ‘girlfriend’ that will electrocute if you get fresh

American company Realbotix showed off its artificial intelligence (AI) robots with a tiny waist and large breasts that could act as a brand representative at an event like CES or as a companion for “the loneliness epidemic,” the company’s CEO Andrew Kiguel told Euronews Next.

He added that the robot called Aria could be used in a care facility for the elderly as it will remember and relay health data, such as when to take medication.

It will also give “a sense of connection with a robot that looks human and is AI-powered,” Kiguel said.

However, it depends on what your version of human is, as some would argue that the impossible female form displayed in the robot is far from human.

Male passers-by of the stand said: “Finally, I’ve found the perfect girlfriend who doesn’t argue back,” while others leered at the robots.

Asked if the robot was a sex robot, Kiguel said it was not and that you would be electrocuted if you tried.

The robot comes in different price points. The one without a body and just a head and torso starts at $10,000 (€ 9,700), another that “comes apart like Lego” for travel costs $150,000 (€147,000), and a full-size robot with a full body that can move around fully and is AI-powered starts at $175,000 (€170,000).

Cute and fluffy ‘joy’ robot

The Tokyo-based start-up Yukai Engineering showed off two cuter robots. One fluffy one called Mirumi was created for “joy,” for the user and people around it, the company told Euronews Next.

It is said to move its head like a baby that observes its surroundings and can clip onto handbags.

Another tiny cute robot the company displayed was its Nékojita FuFu, a cat that clips onto your cup and blows on your beverage or food to cool it down.

Toothbrush that cleans your teeth in 20 seconds

CES is always big on self-care gadgets and the French company DuoBrush displayed its Y-Brush Ultra and Y-Brush Essential – toothbrushes that clean your teeth thoroughly in just 20 seconds.

A new U-shaped brush that looks like a mouthguard does get the job done. Euronews Next tried it out and it works by repeatedly chewing down on the device, which is powered like a regular electronic toothbrush. It did take longer than 20 seconds though when we test it for ourselves.

The motion takes time to get right and you can also switch out the U-shaped brush for a regular shaped one.

Spice machine that helps you cook

AI featured heavily across CES and was found in home devices.

Spicerr is a food tech gadget that uses AI to detect how much spice you would need for a recipe and also dispenses it in its capsules, so no need for spoons and spice pots.

According to the manufacturer, it “adapts spices and recipes to your favourite flavours to create a personalised cooking experience”.

Chair that keeps your backside cool or warm

The company Razer displayed a chair that can heat and warm your behind. The concept product has been designed for gamers and has a self-regulating heater.

It also has a “bladeless fan system” that can circulate air through the chair’s mesh backing.
