Colombian megastar Shakira has been rushed to hospital with a stomach problem that forced her to cancel a concert in Peru.

The gig scheduled for Sunday at the National Stadium in Lima promised to be a nice reunion between Shakira and Peru, as the singer had not been in the country since 2011, but fate had other plans.

Rumours began circulating yesterday morning about her health and whether the show would go on. The Colombian stararrived in Lima in the early hours of Saturday morning after several performances in Brazil, where she dazzled in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

However, on Sunday afternoon, Shakira herself confirmed the bad news through her social networks. She revealed that she had been hospitalised since the night before due to severe abdominal pain, which prevented her from performing the concert. “The doctors who are treating me have told me that I am in no condition to perform a concert tonight. I am very sad that I will not be able to go on stage. I have been very excited to meet again with my beloved Peruvian public”, she said in a statement.

Despite the official announcement, the long queues of fans around the National Stadium continued. Many fans are still waiting for official information from the ticketing company about a possible refund or rescheduling. It’s also uncertain whether she’ll be able to perform Monday’s second date, scheduled in the same city.

“I hope to be better and to be released as soon as possible so that I can present the show I have prepared for all of you. My plan is to perform this show as soon as possible. My team and the promoter are already working on a new date to let you know. Thank you for your understanding. I love you all very much,” Shakira said in her message.

Clinic responds after the singer’s condition was leaked.

The Delgado Clinic, where the artist is recovering, issued an internal statement recalling the confidentiality of medical information, after the leak of data on the hospitalisation of Colombian.

The National Institute for the Defence of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) also responded following the cancellation of Shakira’s first concert in Lima. In a statement, Indecopi reminded the organising company, A23 Live Entertainment S.A.C., of its obligation to clearly and timely inform consumers about the situation of the event.

In addition, Indecopi stressed that attendees should have two options: rescheduling the show or, failing that, reimbursement of the money corresponding to the tickets, which should be made within a reasonable period of time. The institution urged the company to guarantee the rights of affected users.

Reactions on social media were mixed. Some expressed frustration, especially those who travelled from other cities and find it difficult to return for a new date. Others chose to take it with humour, suggesting that the Peruvian food may have been the cause of the singer’s discomfort. Meanwhile, Nayomy Shakira, president of Shakira’s official club in Peru, called for calm and empathy: “If we are fans, we will understand that health comes first,” she said.
