How will the EU handle another wave of refugees moving towards it?

Renewed conflict in the Middle East may bring about a new refugee crisis in Europe, where anti-immigration far-right parties are rising in consensus and influencing the political narrative.

With the ongoing escalation of violence in the Middle East, the number of people running away from conflict is rapidly rising.

Experts warn that the current situation could mirror the 2015 refugee crisis when the war in Syria forced many to seek safety in Europe.

However, this time the EU, already grappling with the impact of Russia’s war in Ukraine and a rise of the anti-migration far-right, may be less willing to accommodate a new influx of refugees.

Is Europe at risk of facing another refugee crisis? Is the EU doing enough to prevent large-scale displacement? Euronews’s Isabel da Silva discusses these concerns with UNHCR representative in Lebanon, Ivo Freijsen, speaking from his office in Beirut.
