You May Not Love Dragon Ball Daima, But It Does One Thing Better Than Super Did

Goku’s latest anime adventure has offered an incredibly enjoyable mix of the iconic franchise’s finest qualities, from blood-pumping, over-the-top fights, to whimsical adventure in a fantasy world only the great Akira Toriyama could have been responsible for. As the series marches ahead, however, it is becoming increasingly clear that Daima has one thing no other Dragon Ball anime can match.

With advancements in technology and an ever-increasing demand for anime, the quality of shows every season seems to improve drastically. Dragon Ball, a series which spans over 40 years of wildly successful releases, was adapted into different anime series decades ago, and though its original releases still largely hold up today, they’ve begun to show their age. Dragon Ball Daima has seemingly been crafted with all the care and strict attention to detail modern animation can allow, and as a result, is the best looking Dragon Ball TV anime in franchise history.

Daima Has Reached Its Climactic Final Battle in Style

Dragon Ball Daima‘s most recent episode #17, “Gomah”, finally kicked off the series’ final confrontation, as the evil King Gomah appeared to put an end to the not-so-friendly sparring match between Goku and Majin Duu. With the mysterious Third Eye residing firmly in his forehead, the King assumed a towering muscular form, and Goku immediately realized he would pose a threat to Earth’s heroes. The fighting which followed was an all-out, large-scale team effort to take Gomah down, and it didn’t go all that well.

Though Dragon Ball has its roots in adventure and fantasy, its main selling point has long been action, and Daima has consistently knocked it out of the park in that aspect. Not only is the art direction of the series, courtesy of Maya Kasai, on point, but the animation is buttery smooth, fast-paced, and full of motion like no other Dragon Ball series has ever seen. With the best of the fighting still to come in the anime, it’s near certain Daima‘s visuals will only improve from this point forward.

Dragon Ball Has Never Looked Better Than It Does in Daima

Despite many of Dragon Ball‘s adaptations having aired decades ago, the relatively recent Dragon Ball Super is often the target of more criticism than any of its other anime series. Premiering in 2015, Super got off to a rocky start, featuring terribly rushed artwork that became infamous in the years following its release. Though somewhat of a different situation, given Super‘s week-to-week production, Dragon Ball Daima is nearing its end, and showing no signs of what plagued its predecessor’s visuals.

Employing Yoshitaka Yashima, a veteran of the franchise, and One Piece‘s Aya Komaki as co-directors, Dragon Ball Daima hasn’t allowed the quality of its animation to dip even in its quietest moments. Action has been somewhat light compared to what might be expected of Dragon Ball, though each fight, from bar scuffles to large-scale tilts, has been impactful, energetic, and exciting. A large portion of the franchise’s fan base holds Dragon Ball Super: Broly as the pinnacle of the series’ visuals, though Daima offers fierce competition for the throne.

Big Things Are Coming in Dragon Ball Daima’s Final Episodes

Dragon Ball Daima has only three episodes remaining before it reaches its conclusion, and the series has promised intense action ahead in a recently revealed teaser trailer. All signs have pointed towards fusion playing a large role in the anime’s climax, though the wildly popular technique may have to be put on hold after Goku dropped his bag of medi-bugs in the most recent episode. For the first time ever, both of Dragon Ball‘s best fighters have access to the Super Saiyan 3 transformation, leading to the possibility of a never-before-seen tag team.
