If you are looking for a match to a disconnected word in today’s Connections puzzle, you are in the right place to get the clue you need to make that come true. This one felt a little harder to me, and I was on a struggle bus as I tried to get four words to line up with each other. Now that I am finally off of that bus, I can help you miss the bus entirely and get on the one that will take you straight to victory instead.
If you need to get another puzzle in today, the NYT’s Mini Crossword is a good one to try out. There are tons of great puzzles out there, but sometimes nothing beats a classic. And this classic has been updated and works a little differently than you might remember. It’s a nice, fresh take on the traditional crossword and one that will only take you a short work break as opposed to a full afternoon.
Today’s Connections Category Hints
FEBRUARY 16 #616
The issue with this puzzle I think was a lot of words that I felt like should go together in one big massive category. I was one word away almost every time I made a guess. Figuring out which one belongs in the category and what word should be swapped in can be a massive challenge. By the end of these clues, you should be able to start dividing the words up and figuring out how to make those swaps for yourself.
- One category is about getting the slightest view of something
- One category is about things that often look good together
- One category is about four famous things that you might not be old enough to reference but that would have appeared on mass media at the time
- One category is about four types of a single thing that are missing a crucial piece of their spelling

GLIMMER | |||
---|---|---|---|
HINT |
SUGGESTION |
TOUCH |
TRACE |
This category was not the one that tripped me up the most but I was mostly stuck on a later one. I did see HINT and SUGGESTION but I thought it was more likely to be POINT and TOUCH. TRACE felt like a weird thing to put here, as these seemed more in line with the feeling of giving a hint to someone as opposed to one existing. Because I got “one away” when I guessed that, I moved along and was never able to come back to it, which was unfortunate.

COMPLEMENT |

MATCH |
SUIT |
This one I saw but I didn’t put it together. I was focused on MATCH belonging elsewhere and didn’t come back to this one. It was an odd scenario for me, and I’m not entirely sure why. This one should have been an easy one for me to grab, and it is unfortunate that it was not. I did notice that it was COMPLEMENT with an “e” and I did think it went with SUIT, but I had MATCH elsewhere and never put it in this context.

LAMB CHOP |
OSCAR |

TRIUMPH |
This one feels like it would be hard unless you were quite familiar with older television. OSCAR the Grouch is one of the most modern ones, with the others being much older references. It’s odd because I did actually watch a lot of older television and would normally know a lot of the references, but I was also not the biggest fan of puppets growing up and into my teenage years so I did avoid those shows. For whatever reason, certain ones like Sesame Street were okay, but not others. And if we’re being technical Sesame Street characters aren’t puppets.

BOX |

RETRIEVE |
SET |
This is oddly the category I got stuck on thinking it was the easy one. BOX, SET, and POINT were words I was focused on along with MATCH. Getting “one away” the first time made me certain I was right about the sportsball terms, but I should have known I wouldn’t be right. I switched out the wrong words, and I even swapped in RETRIEVE, but unfortunately swapped it with BOX thinking MATCH had to be the right one. It was unfortunate, but I feel semi-justified in thinking it could have been correct.
