The Odyssey’s Cast Is Incredible But Is Missing 1 Christopher Nolan Actor Who Would Be Perfect For It

Legendary director Christopher Nolan announced that his next film would be an adaptation of Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, and as impressive as the already-announced cast is, it’s missing one frequent Christopher Nolan collaborator who would be perfect for the movie. The long-form piece of classic literature follows the Greek hero Odysseus on his ten-year journey to his homeland after the Trojan War. The story features many of the most famous names from Greek mythology, including Zeus, Poseidon, and Athena, among other gods, heroes, and monsters.

With so many high-profile roles involved in the telling of The Odyssey and the sheer prestige that comes with a Christopher Nolan movie, the announced cast for the movie is predictably loaded with stars. As was the case with Oppenheimer, Nolan has assembled a star-studded list that already includes Matt Damon, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and more. Some actors, like Damon and Hathaway, have collaborated with Nolan in the past, but so far The Odyssey is still missing one key Nolan collaborator who would be an excellent fit for the historical epic.

The Odyssey Would Be Perfect For A Christian Bale & Christopher Nolan Reunion

The Two Haven’t Collaborated Since 2012

Christian Bale is one of Christopher Nolan’s most frequent collaborators, although three of the movies he starred in for Nolan were the three chapters of the iconic Dark Knight trilogy. The highly-acclaimed trilogy is still recognized as one of the greatest comic book-based movie series ever, and its central chapter The Dark Knight even garnered eight Academy Award nominations to go with two wins. Bale starred in the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, and his strong performances were a centerpiece of each of the action superhero films.

Given Christian Bale’s long history of exceptional dramatic performances, he would be a perfect fit for the epic action and drama of Odysseus’ dangerous journey from Troy to Ithaca. Although Nolan probably already has someone else in mind for the role of Odysseus himself, Bale’s gravitas and esteem would make him an ideal choice for one of the key deities or monsters that plays a role in Odysseus’ journey. He would be a great choice for Zeus, the king of the gods, or perhaps Polyphemus, the Cyclops who Odysseus famously confronts.

Christian Bale Has Sadly Done Just One Nolan Movie Outside The Dark Knight Trilogy

Their First Collaboration Was A 2006 Psychological Thriller

As great as the collaboration between Nolan and Bale was on The Dark Knight trilogy, they have regrettably only worked together one other time. Bale starred alongside Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johansson, and Michael Caine in Nolan’s 2006 psychological thriller The Prestige, which chronicled the ever-escalating rivalry of two magicians in Victorian London. Bale starred once again in a dual role, as a man and his twin brother who each lived part-time as the same man. The dueling personalities showcased Bale’s range, while the mind-bending narrative showcased Nolan’s prowess as a film-maker and visual storyteller.

The Odyssey won’t be short on talent, given the sheer scale of the adventure that Nolan’s next movie will cover. Despite the names that have already been announced for the movie, it seems likely that more will be added to the cast list between now and the movie’s July 2026 release date. There is plenty of time for Christian Bale to be added to The Odyssey in a key role, which would be an exciting notion given his history with Christopher Nolan.
