The MCU Has Finally Done Something With White Vision, 3 Years After He Disappeared

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for What If…? Season 3, episode 5The MCU finally brought back White Vision after his introduction in WandaVision, with a brief role as a villain in What If…? season 3 episode 5. Despite being one of the most powerful Avengers in the whole Infinity Saga, Vision spent very little time actually fighting in the MCU. Vision defeated Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron, took part in Team Iron Man’s battle against Team Captain America in Captain America: Civil War, and was severely incapacitated by Corvus Glaive in Avengers: Infinity War before dying at the hands of Thanos at the end of the same movie.

Unfortunately for several MCU characters, the Multiverse Saga hasn’t followed up on their stories in a long time after their last appearance. Shang-Chi, Moon Knight, America Chavez, and Vision are only some of the heroes whose future has been ambiguous for a while. However, the MCU’s upcoming Vision Quest series promises to bring back Vision, or at least a new version of the synthezoid, as well as one of his creators and perhaps a few more surprise cameos.

A New Vision Appeared After The Original Synthezoid’s Death

After Vision’s death in Avengers: Infinity War, Wanda Maximoff created a fake reality and a fake version of her family, starting with Vision. Meanwhile, SWORD recovered Vision’s body and rebuilt it as an emotionless white synthezoid. When Vision’s body met Vision’s consciousness, Vision’s consciousness tapped into his old body’s deepest neural connections, seemingly transferring his memories and personalities to this new White Vision. At the end of their philosophical battle in the WandaVision finale, White Vision flew away from Westview and Wanda’s Vision construct disintegrated.

White Vision’s creation is quite similar in the comics, only that it’s Project Vigilance that rebuilds Vision’s body, not SWORD. Wanda Maximoff also tries to live with White Vision as a couple, but White Vision simply lacks the capacity to feel emotions, and the two break up. This won’t be the case in the MCU, as Scarlet Witch apparently died for good in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, shortly after she deactivated her Westview hex.

White Vision Becomes An Ironheart Armor In A Post-Apocalyptic Alternate Future

Before White Vision returns in Vision Quest, What If…? season 3 episode 5 brings him back in the role of a secondary antagonist. In an alternate timeline where the Eternals couldn’t stop Tiamut’s Emergence event, Mysterio gathered Iron Man’s technology and set out to be a cosmic dictator. Mysterio somehow took control of White Vision and employed him as his main enforcer, hunting down the last survivors of Earth’s cataclysmic event. The only way White Vision can be slowed down is with a powerful spell by Wong, and even then, the sorcerer is only able to contain White Vision for a few seconds.

Fortunately for the survivors, Riri Williams builds a weapon capable of neutralizing White Vision in record time, and she uses it just in time to save herself from the villain’s attack. Riri then comes out wearing White Vision’s body as an Ironheart armor and defeats Mysterio. Although her experiment is rushed and thus imperfect, Riri Williams’ White Vision armor might be one of the most powerful in the MCU, as it’s virtually unbreakable and incredibly fast, and it shoots beams of energy like the original Vision.

White Vision Will Be Back Soon For Real

White Vision Will Star In His Own Series In Phase 5 Or Phase 6

White Vision will star in his own MCU Disney+ show either in Phase 6 or Phase 7. In Vision Quest, White Vision will probably come face to face with Ultron, who’s confirmed to return after more than a decade of absence. And since Agatha All Along saw Billy Maximoff earn his Wiccan powers and resurrect Tommy Maximoff in a new body, it’s possible that Vision Quest will feature one or both of Wanda and Vision’s children, who could reunite with their father and recover their memories together.

The plot of the MCU’s Vision Quest series is still a mystery

Given that WandaVision has already adapted a big part of Marvel Comics’ Vision Quest storyline, the plot of the MCU’s Vision Quest series is still a mystery. In the comics, a white Anti-Vision impersonates Vision for a short while, but White Vision starts to regain his emotions and uncovers the impostor. Vision then malfunctions and dies, but his memories are recovered and implanted into Iron Lad’s armor. Shortly after, the armor gains a life of his own and becomes a younger version of Vision with his own identity and personality. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but these events might be adapted to some degree in Vision Quest and the MCU’s Young Avengers project.
