The Agency episode 6 reveals that Coyote is currently in the hands of a group of Russian mercenaries known as Valhalla. Coyote sloppily blew his cover when he tried to recruit someone in Belarus to the CIA who was secretly connected to Russian mercenaries. The recruit promptly told the mercenaries, who then got Coyote’s psychiatrist – who the CIA didn’t know about – to mess with his prescribed pills. Coyote got a DUI not because he broke his sobriety and drank past his limit but rather because he was drugged. A corrupt KGB agent named Bogdan Antuyk took him out of the Belarusian police station via underground tunnels that were linked to government buildings.

Bogdan Antuyk then passed him on to Russian mercenaries for just 20,000 euros. The dangerous mercenaries work for General Volchok, who is the commander of Valhalla. The Agency episode 6 explains that Volchok is going to hand Coyote over to Moscow to make friends at the Kremlin. Volchock hopes to unveil Coyote in front of a visiting VIP next week and could even hand over the “CIA agent on a plate” to the Russian President. Coyote is currently behind enemy lines in Ukraine where he is set to be handed over to the FSB, Russian Federal Security Service, and the SVR, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, in just four days.

Who Is General Novikov & What He Wants

He only wants a certain CIA tape from 1989 in exchange for info on Coyote

General Novikov is a high-ranking KGB member who is considered an “old-school” secret agent. After Martain inquired about a missing bike with Mikhail Bortnik in a previous episode, the CIA was contacted about an online auction being held for the “bike” by a seller, who the CIA refers to as Cossack, which is a Russian term for “free man” or “adventurer“. After Martian identified Novikov before the online auction ended, the CIA sent a lump sum payment to his bank account in the amount of $1.4 million. Novikov sent the money back, which indicates that the auction was just a ruse and a test to see if the CIA were serious about finding their “bike.”

After IDing Novikov as Cossack, Martian figures out what he wants: an archived CIA tape from the Vogelsang barracks just north of Berlin dated February 11, 1989. The tape revealed what happened to Novikov’s wife, which he seems to have been unaware of before he heard the tape. Nokikov was a proud member of the KGB until a new leader, Volchock, made him feel differently about his country.

The tape reveals that Volchick, who speaks with Reiner Meilke, the head of the Stasi in East Berlin from 1957 to 1989, killed Novikov’s wife to destroy him. It seems that other KGB members plotted to take down Novikov with Volchick, who was betrayed by his country for unknown reasons. Novikov could have plausibly been taken out because he was a threat to Volchock’s schismatic rule.

How Martian Discovered That General Novikov Had Intel On Coyote

He pretended to be Novikov’s doctor to send a direct message about the “bike”

Martian established Mikhail Bortnik, the guy who Martian met with at a nightclub, as the first contact. Mikhail tapped Cossack, who turned out to be Novikov. Early in The Agency episode 6, Martian establishes that whoever Cossack is, he has nothing to lose and must be in Mikhail’s circle. The tech-savvy Simon is sent to retrieve the contents of the locker, which was found on the burner phone at one of Coyote’s previous dead drop locations in Belarus, a kebab shop. The locker had a photograph of a bike with a phone number on the back of it. Martian called and was told to make a bid. He soon discovered, with Simon’s assistance, the online listing of the “bike” for sale.

Martian ascertains that whoever Cossack is, he’s an old-school agent based on his spycraft. He tells Henry, “Everything about this was old. Analog, dead drops, breadcrumb meets.” He makes an educated guess that Novikov matches the description of Cossack and then shoots his shot by disguising himself as Novikov’s doctor to send him a direct message. Martian tells Novikov that he’s interested in buying his bike, which prompts Novikov to pause before hanging up without asking any questions. This, along with the rejected $1.4 million payment to Novikov, is enough for Martian and Henry to conclude that they have found their Cossack.

Who Followed Martian & How They Tracked Him

On top of Martian’s developments with tracking down Coyote, Osman and his associate Ahmed, as well as some Chinese agents, are in fierce pursuit of “Paul Lewis.” Osman becomes suspicious after Paul fails to report getting mugged by Ahmed to the police, which prompted him to ask for assistance “taking someone out” from the Chinese. “Paul” realizes he’s being followed and loses his tail once after going into a publisher’s office. The second time, however, results in a footrace as Paul quickly changes his outfit and ditches his hotel room key, which is somehow being used to track his movements throughout London, potentially through RFID tracing.

Why Martian Raised The Stakes Of Finding Coyote To The CIA Director

Martian lies and plays “the biggest game of his life”

The Agency Season 1 Ep 1-20

Martian raises eyebrows when he tells the CIA Director and a White House representative that he essentially promises to find Coyote before he is handed over to Moscow. The ambitious claim rubs Henry and Bosko the wrong way, who are both fully aware of how improbable it will be to rescue Coyote at this point. Martian thinks that the CIA can work it out with Valhalla, who might be persuaded against handing Coyote over to the Russians.

Martian’s closing voiceover, however, reveals that he is lying and “playing the biggest game of his life” since he feels his end is near. By Martian’s rationale, he’s already been exposed by Osman, so why not bet even higher, especially if he knows his cover will be fully blown by the end of The Agency.
