Star Wars Is Turning Jude Law’s “Jedi” Into Its Next Space Dad

This article contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 4.It seems that Star Wars is officially soft launching its next space dad in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew in the form of Jude Law’s “Jedi” scoundrel Jod Na Nawood. Known to some as Captain Silvo and Crimson Jack, Jod is a character that even Skeleton Crew‘s young cast has trouble trusting so quickly, particularly after watching the New Republic rangers pursue the scoundrel on Kh’ymm’s observatory moon. While he may not have the characters nor the audience fully convinced yet, it seems as if Star Wars wants to nudge viewers in a promising direction.

Despite this, Jod takes on a bigger paternal role in Skeleton Crew‘s latest episode, capturing the hearts of the audience. He seems to abandon his sense of self-preservation in favor of giving up the children’s golden Old Republic credits, which he could have kept for himself, for the Troiks’ eopies – which gave him the proper bargaining room to free Fern, Wim, KB, and Neel. What followed has fans ready to accept Jod as the next space dad in the Star Wars galaxy.

Cat declares that the transformation has begun via X, sharing the moment when Neel runs up to Jod and embraces him in both relief and gratitude. Rather than refusing the hug, Jod keeps Neel close with gentle pats on the back, in addition to an endearing awkward nod that makes him truly fit into the recent mold of reluctant Star Wars dads.

Meanwhile, Olive on X concurs by saying the gesture feels “familiar“, and it’s no wonder why. The running embrace of gratitude has also been seen with arguably Star Wars’ most famous adoptive father, Din Djarin, when Grogu runs up to the Mandalorian after being placed under threat by bandits on Tatooine.

Speaking of Din Djarin, Brooke on X makes a direct comparison between Jod and Din Djarin based on their definitive dad stances. In the background of Skeleton Crew episode 4, Jod stands with a single hand on his hip, a posture that’s often assumed by Din in The Mandalorian – particularly when actor Pedro Pascal is in the suit.

If Jod truly is being primed as a brand-new space dad in the Star Wars collection of this archetype, then it means that the franchise has recognized just how beloved this character trope truly is. While space dads are nothing new for Star Wars, beginning with the famous reveal of Darth Vader as Luke Skywalker’s father, the story of Din Djarin and Grogu in The Mandalorian has completely revolutionized the archetype for the galaxy far, far away. The “Dad Batch” in Star Wars: The Bad Batch only furthered this trend, particularly with Hunter and Omega. Jod continues this trend.

It’s Hard To Tell Where His Loyalty Is Now

The question is whether Jod’s status as a space dad to the titular Skeleton Crew will hold up or not. It’s still hard to tell if Jod’s actions are meant to benefit himself or because he’s truly starting to care about the children. He knows he needs them if he’s ever going to find At Attin, which means his act of saving them here could simply be to find the planet’s treasure. Hopefully, of course, Jod comes to realize just how much he does care about the kids in Skeleton Crew and has a full change of heart.
