Since Gi-hun was the sole winner of the massive cash prize in Squid Game season 1, many viewers would naturally be curious about what he does with his money in season 2. Fortunately, in its opening moments itself, Squid Game season 2 reveals how he is spending his money, and it makes complete sense. With both luck and wit in his favor, Lee Jung-jae’s Gi-hun managed to survive the central games in Squid Game season 1, allowing him to win the grand prize of 45.6 billion won.

However, after winning the prize, Gi-hun was seemingly clueless about what he would do with it because what previously seemed like a blessing eventually turned into a curse. Gi-hun struggled to carry the burden of all the things he had to experience and do to win the 45.6 billion dollar cash prize, holding him back from embracing his newfound wealth. In Squid Game season 2, though, when Gi-hun finally figures out his new purpose, he finds the drive to invest his money in his overarching plan to achieve his sole goal.

As Squid Game season 2’s opening moments reveal, Gi-hun rents out multiple rooms in a cheap motel and uses one of them to store his cash prize. He uses some of his money to install CCTV cameras at the motel’s entrances to ensure he can keep a close eye on who is entering or leaving it. He also pays off all his previous loans and hires his loan sharks to help track down the people who run the game. Using his money as leverage, he decides to set out on a journey to seek revenge on those who take advantage of the poor by forcing them to play the games.

He Believes The Salesman Can Lead Him To The Game’s Organizers

Since Gi-hun got access to games through the Salesman in Squid Game season 1, he understands that only the Salesman can help him reach the elusive figures who run the games. Therefore, he hires Mr. Kim and pays him a hefty sum to help him find the Salesman. Using the money Gi-hun invests in the search, Mr. Kim also recruits a massive team to ensure they eventually track down the target. Initially, despite their best efforts, Mr. Kim and his men struggle to find the man Gi-hun is looking for.

They spend two years roaming the subway, hoping to find Gong Yoo’s mysterious Squid Game character. However, they keep coming up empty-handed, forcing them to question whether the Salesman even exists. Like the men he recruits, Mr. Kim also struggles to believe Gi-hun’s account of what happened on the island. However, Gi-hun promises to give him a billion won reward if he finds the Salesman, which encourages him and his team to keep going. Almost midway through Squid Game season 2’s episode 1, Mr. Kim and his right-hand man finally find the man with the ddakji.

How Much Money Gi-hun Still Has Left At The Start Of Squid Game Season 2

The Show Does Not Reveal The Exact Figures

Gi-hun got a total of 45.6 billion won after he won the games in Squid Game season 1’s ending arc. As season 2’s opening episodes reveal, he not only invested the money in hiring men to track down the Salesman but also bought multiple military-grade weapons to ensure they had enough resources and ammunition to fight against those involved with the games. Despite this, he seems to have a lot of it left at the start of Squid Game season 2. The season’s episode 2 features a scene that shows the entire stack Gi-hun won at the games.

Only a few bundles from one edge of the stack seem to have been used, hinting that despite spending a lot on hiring men and buying weapons from the black market, Gi-hun is far from reaching the end of his vast fortune in Squid Game season 2. This should not be surprising since he won 45.6 billion won, which is almost equal to $31.4 million. Even if Gi-hun spent as much as $2 million, he would still be left with almost 93% of his total earnings in Squid Game season 2’s opening moments.
