PSA: J.Crew’s Legit Great Black Friday Sale Incudes 40% Off Cashmere

For the past 20 years, J.Crew’s Black Friday sales have been my favorite to shop. While some may consider them just another drop in the Black Friday deals bucket (to be fair, the rest of the Black Friday clothing sales are pretty stellar this year), for me, it’s the J.Crew discounts that matter. I’ve been an avid shopper of J.Crew since even before the Jenna Lyons era, and I have a copy of the ’99 Dawson’s Creek catalogue to prove it. In fact, when I got engaged some 13 years ago, I told my husband I didn’t want a diamond ring—just a signature J.Crew Jackie cardigan in light pink. I still have the cardigan he proposed with (and the ring). But enough about me, and back to the deals. I’m not gonna lie. J.Crew has mark downs frequently (just wait). You can usually expect to take 20 – 30% off whatever you’re looking for (besides cashmere) on any given day, but the J.Crew Black Friday sale is reliably the best–the one time a year you can take 50% off the entire site and this year, cashmere is actually 40% off (which is very rare). I can say with authority, both as Glamour’s commerce director whose job it (kind of is) to study sales, and as a brand loyalist who once woke up at 7 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving to buy a plaid dress similar to the one below and a pair of perfect bow heels, that I still get compliments on, that it doesn’t get much better than this year’s array.

J.Crew has been hitting on all of the key fall fashion trends (because of course) lately. They’re nailing the wear-to-work sequins (just check out that skirt below), they’re all over the mohair sweater moment, and some of their chicest jackets are half off. (I’ve had the wool Lady Day topcoat for years–it’s worth the investment.) Plus, there’s plenty of great gifts for him on sale (including suits for 40% off). My husband lives in the sweet slim-fit houndstooth sweater. I may just get him one more now that it’s marked down. And presents for kids abound too.

J.Crew has a lot of sweaters, so narrowing this list down wasn’t easy, but let’s first look to the cashmere which is basically never discounted, but is up to 40% off for Black Friday. I also just couldn’t resist the brass buttons on this cable-knit cardi. It sounds crazy to say that cardigans (hello, timeless) are trending, but it’s true, and this one’s special. It can also be difficult to find anything that isn’t cropped these days (where my mid-rise denim girlies at?) so I’m highlighting the sweater polo below as well in case you’re not into the current shrunken vibe either.

Forget what I said about not being into cropped things. I’ll make an exception for this perfect sequined jacket which you can wear over any dress or with jeans. The ultra-soft peacoat is also like a giant hug, and in line with the mob wife aesthetic trend that popped off last January and isn’t going anywhere (it comes in leopard too if you really wanna go wild, pun intended). And if you’re looking for a great wool coat, I’ve had the Lady Day for years. Minus a few lining wears and tears, it’s still in tip top shape, so now that’s about $160 off, it’s worth a look. I also love this zippy take on the barn jacket (another major trend).

This season is all about sequins and silk and J.Crew has no shortage of either. Both have a comfy waistband that sits comfortably at the hip. Pop on a sweater, a moto jacket, a camisole, you name it–they’re surprisingly versatile. I’ve also been wearing the crap out of the pleated skirt below. It’s loose in the tummy which is a need, not a want when cheese-eating holiday party season rolls around, and it pairs perfectly with the classic fit cashmere sweater I dropped above which is just long enough to cover the waistband. You can also tuck in a tighter tee, like this one with pretty pointelle details. The faux leather skirt is also equal parts festive and work appropriate.

It’s not easy to find cute fall dresses with long sleeves that you can wear to the office without worrying about layering, which is why I’m eyeing these two festive pieces in seasonal plaid. They’re perfect for any upcoming holiday parties, as is that velvet shift dress.

They’re just as good as Eberjey’s cult-favorite jammies (which are way more expensive, if you can believe that), and now that they’re 50%, I strongly encourage you to see for yourself (if you were in the market for spendy pajamas in the first place). And why don’t you go ahead and pick up these flannels for your fella too. My hubby loves his.

Suede is all the rage right now, and these comfy ankle boots are a great way to dip your toe (see what I did there?) into the trend. Want something you can actually wear in bad weather though? I’m vibing these more versatile winter boots. Both are $100 off. And for something a little fancier, while they take a sec to break in, once they do, the patent leather T-strap heels (a key shoe trend) served me well for several hours (before I needed a Band-Aid, which is saying something for brand new shoes).
