Players of Pokémon TCG Pocket are discovering that Pidgeot ex is a great Normal-type pocket monster to run against other big meta decks. This is because Pidgeot ex can deal a whole host of damage, but knowing which cards to put with it is a whole other story. It all depends on which way you want to go, as there are plenty of different ways to build a great deck around this card.
Pidgeot ex is one of many surprises in the Mythical Island expansion in Pokémon TCG Pocket. There were a lot of potential stars in the new expansion, but most people expected Golem to be the new meta. Pidgeot has not made the biggest wave just yet, and the decks are still evolving, but there are some theories about which deck will end up standing the test of time. While you definitely should experiment with this one, there are several things you can keep in mind. Druddigon is one of the cards that has become a staple in many decks as a way to stall for time until players can get the card out that they want with all the Energy they need. However, it will just stall for time as, particularly with this deck, you cannot get the Energy you need on it.
You could very easily keep with the Normal-type deck, switching back in Blue for Druddigon. However, here are a few other suggestions:
- Electric-type cards such as Galvantula and Joltik
- Vaporeon to pair with Eevee
- Chatot
- Mew ex
All of these offer another potential big hit to go with your Pidgeot ex, so you will have to experiment to see what works best for you. However, these decks will all require spending quite a lot of time or money getting the necessary cards. There are some cheaper alternatives, or you can sub out a similar card from Genetic Apex that you already have.

Most of these decks are going to rely on stalling for time and manipulating the board. You will be stalling with Druddigon, swapping out the Active Pokémon if need be with Leaf, using Tauros to clear any ex-Pokémon your opponent has quickly, and using the other Trainer cards to keep your side of the board in good shape.
While you have more than enough base power with Pidgeot ex, you have to get them out and have your opponent’s Bench quite full in order to maximize the potential. You will want to be wary of things like Articuno ex for this reason, but you can use the Pokémon Flute to get more Pokémon on the Bench when needed.
You will need Leaf to get Druddigon off the Active Spot.
The Pikachu ex Mythical Island deck is a problem for this deck, as it will hit Pidgeot quite hard. Any Electric-type deck is going to be hard as it will have maximum damage against you. Fighting-types might also have the same issue because of Tauros and Eevee.
Your other weakness is that it is going to take time to setup both with getting the evolutions out and getting enough Energy on the card. Right now, there is no way to get more Energy on the card like there is for some of the other big decks. Opponents can also keep their Benches fairly clear, not allowing you to do as much damage. You may want to keep Pidgeot ex back to try to tempt your opponent out.
The good news is that this deck can counter some of the big meta decks, but it might be less consistent than some of the others. You will have to do your own experimenting to see if it works well for you, but that is always how it goes in Pokémon TCG Pocket when you are building a new deck.
