Low-Rise Jeans You’ll Actually Want to Wear
There are a ton of ways to style low rise jeans, and celebrity looks are proof: cue Julia Fox, Gisele Bündchen, Gigi Hadid, and Hailey Bieber.)
Audree Kate López, a fashion stylist in NYC, says it all about balancing your proportions. T-shirts that snugly fit your torso and hit right above the waistline of the jeans are ideal. You can also go for a boxy cropped fall jacket that hits at the waistline or a boyfriend blazer. “My rule of thumb is the wider and baggier the pants are, the smaller and more fitted the top should be,” she says.
The rule of thirds is something López recommends to all her clients. “If your outfit cuts your body in half, top vs. bottom, it can be boring,” she says. Instead, break it up into thirds: if you want the jeans to be MVP, focus on adding points of interest to them, like a printed shoe, belt or handbag that will sit next to your jeans when walking. “Keep the top simple so the focus is on the bottom ⅔ of the body. “If you want to elongate your body, dress in tonal colors, balance out your proportions with a tailored blazer or jacket, and a pointed boot.”
When shopping for low rise jeans, she recommends looking for a snug pair that fit comfortably on the hips and are made of fabric (like 100% cotton) that has enough stretch, but isn’t too loose. López recommends straight, wide-leg, and boyfriend jeans for low rise jeans but you can really go with anything that feels good to you.
