Love is Blind Season 8, Episodes 7-9 Review: I’m Frustrated By How David Is Treating Lauren Now That They’re Out Of The Pods

Things get tense as the couples make their way out of the pods and into the “real” world in Love Is Blind

season 8, episodes 7-9. In just 10 days, several couples found their ideal partner, got into a committed relationship, and even got engaged before ever getting to see each other. However, not all the couples from the Love is Blind pods survived, with Madison’s struggle to choose between Alex and Mason being a particular high point from the first batch of episodes.

Episode 6 ended on a huge cliffhanger, as it appears Daniel may have been holding back a huge secret from Taylor. Meanwhile, David finally made his choice between Molly and Lauren, though his intentions and authenticity felt a little off. Regardless, five couples made it through their time in the pods, and now they take it all in on a lavish holiday before returning to their homes and meeting their partner’s family and friends for the first time. And to say that things have not gone smoothly is an understatement.

The Couples Get A Reality Check In Love Is Blind Season 8

Starting off strong, Love is Blind season 8, episode 7 jumps right into what happened to cause Taylor to question if Daniel knew who she was before proposing. The show sowed seeds of doubt with Daniel repeatedly talking about fate and highlighting points from Taylor’s Instagram, but the truth is, the details weren’t all that unique. Likewise, Taylor’s biggest suspicions came from a foggy idea of a picture she had in her mind that didn’t match up with Daniel’s profile picture. Either way, it’s thrown a cog into their relationship that could see the couple fall apart later on.

Honestly, the most entertaining couple to watch in these episodes was David and Lauren. And when I say entertaining, I mean it’s a train wreck that is impossible to turn away from. From the start, David was not a likable character. He talked about how he frequently objectified women and would point out parts that he believed they should surgically enhance. Now, he hasn’t done that to Lauren yet (at least not while the cameras were rolling), but he has managed to turn her into a villain due to the most minor of details from before their time in the pods.

As for Monica and Joey, Sara and Ben, and Virginia and Devin, their relationships have had minor bumps in the road, but from the teaser for the next set of episodes, it appears as though their honeymoon period is about to end. And even juicier, the look ahead to the couples reuniting with some of the other prospective partners from the pods will make things a lot more interesting.

But as far as these three episodes go, a lot happens in a short time. In some ways, this is a huge plus, because the show is not dragging its heels, but it does feel as though it needs to manufacture some drama due to some of the couples simply getting along too well.

Love Is Blind Is Far From Reality, But It Keeps Dragging Us Back For More

Love is Blind’s second batch of episodes keeps the tension high and gives away just enough to keep us engaged ahead of the final episodes. However, it does feel as though most of the drama is coming from one couple. And when I say one couple, I mean one person in that couple. David is absolutely the villain in Love is Blind season 8, and thanks to his obsession with his sister’s opinions, the way he values the faint whispers of his buddies while disregarding his own fiancée, it would be shocking if the couple make it to the end.

David is a classic gaslighter and manipulator, and it’s one of the most painful things to see unfold on reality TV, especially when a strong, intelligent woman puts herself down to try and make the guy feel better. Thankfully, Lauren is not so stupid as to let David walk all over her, but you can see she is genuinely suffering as she tries to reconcile with a person she has developed an actual emotional connection to, while he is completely checked out.

These three episodes fly by, and I’ll be on the edge of my seat waiting for the next batch of episodes. Until then, the teaser and the promised drama will have to tide us over. Episodes 7 to 9 certainly take things to the next level, but they also lack some of the charm and fun that was a core part of the dating portion in previous episodes. Nonetheless, the addictive reality drama remains a powerful magnet to bring us back, if only to find out who makes it to the altar in the finale.
