Katie Holmes Supports Suri From Afar in the Fashionable Empty Nester Uniform
Katie Holmes is embracing the uniform of all empty nester parents: their kids’ school merch. And of course she makes it look elevated and cool.
The actor, currently starring in Our Town on Broadway, stepped out in New York City wearing a Carnegie Mellon sweatshirt under a houndstooth peacoat, the Pumpkin Spice Latte in her hand completing our back-to-school season mood board (okay, we don’t know it was a PSL, but spiritually, we feel it must be).
Holmes completed the look with black loafers, wide-legged jeans, and oversized sunglasses, keeping her stuff in a Tribeca Film Festival tote because she’s not a regular mom, she’s an artsy mom. Carnegie Mellon sweatshirts are a thing in this family: Suri announced her college plans via sweatshirt in a classmate’s TikTok in June. Sometimes the best fashion statement is the most obvious.
Holmes spoke glowingly of her daughter in her 2023 Glamour cover story, saying, “What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her. I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person.”
As Suri left for college, Katie Holmes told Town & Country, “I’m proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy. I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.” No word yet on what Suri might be studying, but she recently graduated from LaGuardia, the performing arts high school that gave us Timothée Chalamet and the movie Fame, so…probably not biochemical engineering. Unless she wants to! She can do anything she sets her mind to, etc, etc.
