Jude Law Remains Hopeful For Fantastic Beasts 4: “There’s A Lot More To Tell”

Jude Law expresses optimism regarding Fantastic Beasts 4 happening after the franchise was seemingly shelved. Hoping to capitalize on the popularity and success of the Harry Potter franchise, the first Fantastic Beasts spinoff was released in 2016 to generally positive reception. Though originally intended to serve as a five-part saga, the following two movies, released in 2018 and 2022, weren’t as warmly received, and the disappointing box office performance of the latter seemingly put plans for Fantastic Beasts 4 on ice.

Law, who played a younger version of Dumledore in the second and third films, now shares a more positive outlook on a potential Fantastic Beasts 4 during a recent interview with GQ. While there are no plans to bring another installment to life at the moment, Law expresses interest in reprising his role. After all, he explains, Dumledore’s story isn’t yet over. Check out Law’s comment below:

“I’ll just wait until I get the phone call.
I hope [it happens]
. What we all know of that character’s journey is wonderful. There’s lots more to tell.”

Why The Harry Potter Spinoff Franchise Is Still Unlikely To Move Forward

Though Law has taken a more optimistic stance, Newt Scamander actor Eddie Redmayne recently shared a more disappointing update on the Fantastic Beasts franchise, telling ComicBook.comI think they probably have” when asked if audiences have seen the last of his character. Redmayne’s candid response, in addition to being more pessimistic, is probably also more realistic. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore reviews may have been marginally more positive than those for The Crimes of Grindelwald, but the film stands as the lowest-grossing entry in the Wizarding World franchise.

The Secrets of Dumbledore
grossed only $407 million worldwide and sports a 46% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fantastic Beasts 4 Could Have Revisited One Dark Story The Harry Potter Movies Cut

There are many reasons why Fantastic Beasts 4 should have happened, and this unresolved plot point would have been a great addition.

Even though Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was a more profitable film, it was met with mostly negative reviews. Taken together, the two most recent Fantastic Beasts films seemingly affirm that this sub-franchise will not be moving forward. Instead, Warner Bros. is clearly putting all of its effort behind the upcoming Harry Potter TV show for Max, which will serve as the retelling of Harry’s saga as it occurs in J.K. Rowling’s books.

Another Wizarding World Movie Is A Long Way Off?

Dumbledore, Newt, and other characters in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)

Though Law did a commendable job as Dumbledore, the particular story that the Fantastic Beasts franchise was telling just ultimately was not as compelling as Harry’s. Pushing forward with the fourth installment in a franchise that has struggled to be better than “just okay” doesn’t make as much as sense as just starting fresh with something new.

Unfortunately, however, with the Harry Potter TV show on the horizon, it might be quite a while before another Wizarding World feature film actually gets the green light. There’s no word of another Wizarding World movie actually being in development. Though audiences shouldn’t hold their breath for Fantastic Beasts 4, it’s clear that Law would certainly be open to reprising his role as Dumbledore should the opportunity arise.
