Soon, the rumor mill was running nonstop with speculation that Simpson and Johnson were getting divorced. What started with suspicious comments on social media then progressed to anonymous confirmations from “insiders” and “sources” speaking to outlets like Us Weekly and People.

Finally, in January of 2025, Simpson herself confirmed that she and Johnson were separated. However, she has not said whether she and Johnson were actually getting divorced, or if they were simply working things out.

January 14, 2025: Jessica Simpson confirms that she and Johnson have split in a statement to People. “Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” Simpson’s statement reads. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”

November 15, 2024: An anonymous source tells Us Weekly that Simpson and Johnson are separated and “trying to figure out a separation without disrupting their kids’ lives as much as possible.” Another insider told the magazine “Jessica is heartbroken” and said the split was “not an easy decision for her.”

November 13, 2024: TMZ publishes photos of Johnson out without his wedding ring on, further fueling divorce speculation. Meanwhile, an anonymous source told People magazine that Johnson and Simpson have been living separately. “She’s working on music and splits her time between Los Angeles and Nashville. Eric spends all of his time in L.A, where the kids go to school. Jess and Eric very much live separate lives,” the source claimed.
