Jenna Ortega’s Performance In Upcoming Thriller Movie Receives High Praise From Co-Star: “She Led That Whole Scene”
Jenna Ortega receives high praise from the co-star of her upcoming thriller movie. Ortega’s first movie role was a brief appearance as the Vice President’s daughter in Iron Man 3. In the 2010s, her notable television roles included playing a young Jane Villanueva in Jane the Virgin and starring as Harley Diaz in Disney Channel’s Stuck in the Middle. She also played Ellie Alves in season 2 of the popular Netflix series You.
Most of Jenna Ortega’s best movies have been released in the first half of the 2020s. She received acclaim for her performance as Vada Cavell in The Fallout, in which she plays a teenager dealing with the aftermath of a high school shooting. Ortega helped revitalize the Scream franchise as Tara Carpenter in 2022’s Scream and in Scream VI and contributed to the box office success of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. However, Ortega is now best known as Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s hit Wednesday series. In addition to Wednesday season 2, she has several other projects releasing in 2025.
Jenna Ortega’s Performance In Hurry Up Tomorrow Is Praised
The Weeknd celebrates Ortega’s performance in Hurry Up Tomorrow. With the same name as the Weeknd’s sixth album, Hurry Up Tomorrow is a psychological thriller directed by It Comes at Night‘s Trey Edward Shults and is based on the album. The Weeknd and Shults co-wrote the project alongside Reza Fahim, who worked with the Weeknd on HBO’s controversial The Idol series. Ortega stars in the movie alongside the Weeknd, Barry Keoghan, country music singer Gabby Barrett, and social media personality and dancer Charli D’Amelio. Hurry Up Tomorrow is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 16.
Hurry Up Tomorrow is Gabby Barrett’s movie debut.
During an interview with Variety, the Weeknd shared how impressed he was by Ortega’s performance and initiative in Hurry Up Tomorrow. He discussed the depth that she brought to her character and how she led a scene that he and Shults were unsure of how to approach. The Weeknd revealed that the scene was not rehearsed and many of his reactions were genuine due to Ortega’s exemplary acting. Check out the Weeknd’s comments below:
Jenna brought so much depth to the character. There was a scene where Trey and I looked at each other like, “On paper, this is just ridiculous — how is it going to translate on screen?” And she said, “I have an idea.” She led that whole scene — none of it was rehearsed, and a lot of my reactions in it are not acting.
Jenna Ortega Continues To Impress With Her Improvisation
This is not the first time that Ortega has delivered impressive improvisation, with her iconic dance in Wednesday season 1 being improvised. Beyond being skilled at improvisation, Ortega has proven that she is able to work well with a wide range of individuals in the entertainment industry, ranging from Tim Burton to the Weeknd, both of whom praise her performances. Wednesday season 2 is Jenna Ortega‘s most anticipated project of 2025, but the Weeknd’s comments make Hurry Up Tomorrow and her performance sound enticing as well.
