It’s Official: DC Is Reviving One of Its Best Teams As Secret Six Gears Up For a Tense Comeback
Amanda Waller is on the loose and if DC’s younger Superman wants any chance of finding her, he and his friends are going to have to work together with a fan-favorite team. DC’s younger generation of heroes went through hell in Absolute Power, and with an unexpected jailbreak, things are about to get a lot worse.
As DC Comics looks ahead to the new year, the publisher revealed that Nicole Maines (Suicide Squad: Dream Team) and Stephen Segovia (Moon Knight) are teaming up for DC’s new limited series, Secret Six. The new series follows Jon, his partner, Jay Nakamura, and Dreamer, who discover that Amanda Waller has somehow escaped from her cell.
With Waller in the wind and some of the most important secrets locked away in her mind, the trio of young heroes has no choice but to team up with three villains from Waller’s past: Secret Six members Deadshot, Catman, and Black Alice.
Superman is Bringing Back the Secret Six to Find Amanda Waller
Waller on the Run Means Big Trouble for the DC Universe
Waller went off the deep end during Absolute Power when she tried to de-power every metahuman on Earth. She blackmailed Dreamer into working for her, murdered Jay’s mother and took over the island nation of Gamorra, and had Jon turned into a weapon of mass destruction. However, the heroes pervailed and Waller was arrested after her crimes were exposed to the world. But it wasn’t enough for Waller to be behind bars. To ensure that the heroes were never put at risk again, Dreamer manipulated Waller’s mind so that she couldn’t remember any personal information about DC’s heroes anymore.
As big of a treat as it is to see the Secret Six back together again, the threat of Amanda Waller being out of prison cannot be understated. Dreamer made it clear that she didn’t erase Waller’s mind, she just made it so that Waller can’t recall the secrets she once knew. There has to be plenty of spells or advanced tech in the DC Universe that can help Waller recover her memories. But if Waller does successfully remember the secrets she’s spent decades hoarding, she’s going to use them to get revenge on every hero she can.
Can DC’s New Secret Six Work Together to Stop Waller?
Personal Drama Could Tear Them Apart
However, it’s probably going to be hard for Superman, Jay, and Dreamer to work together. After all, Jay still blames Dreamer for helping Waller kill his mother. Plus, Jon is undoubtedly suffering from lingering trauma after what Waller put him through, so he might not be too much help at resolving Jay and Dreamer’s drama. And that’s not even getting into the mountain of issues Deadshot, Catman, and Black Alice have. The new Secret Six is going to have to find some way to move past all this conflict if they want any hope of finding Waller.
The younger heroes know how much is at risk with Waller on the loose. And if there was one thing the previous iteration of the Secret Six was good at, it was keeping partnerships strong during the most dire of circumstances. It’ll be interesting to see how this team comes together and even more fascinating to see how they’ll stick together. Hopefully, having a Superman on their side will help the Secret Six ultimately succeed in their mission to find the DC Universe’s most wanted criminal.
Secret Six is available from DC Comics on March 5, 2025.
