Han Solo May Be a Scoundrel, But Star Wars Wants You to Know What a Softie the Hero Is

Han Solo is known as a rogue, and a tough guy, but as Marvel’s Star Wars comics approach the milestone birth of his son with Leia Organa, the franchise is making it clear that his time with the Rebellion, the friendships he made, and the love he found, he has developed a soft side, and now he would sacrifice anything for them.

The preview for Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku – Last Stand (2024) #2 – written by Alex Segura, with art by Jethro Morales – shows that after an attempted assassination on his wife, Princess Leia, Han leaves everything he’s doing and rushes the Millennium Falcon back to her, dropping everything to make sure his pregnant wife is okay.

Naturally, Han is not the only one rushing to Leia’s aide. Luke Skywalker also gets news of the attack and hurries to be by his sister’s side – bringing the franchise’s big three together for the first time since Endor.

Han Solo, Leia Organa, & Luke Skywalker Were Always A Found Family, But Now They’re A Real Family

The Skywalker family is messy, but when someone messes with that family, they are quick to defend each other. Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Leia Organa all met during A New Hope. Han was reluctant to stay at first, and his arc over the course of the Original Trilogy featured his transformation into a stalwart hero of the Rebellion – something that Marvel’s Battle of Jakku series emphasizes, though in ways that subtly foreshadow the eventual tragic break-up of his marriage, and the loss of his son to the Dark Side.

Star Wars Is Ready to Expand The Force Awakens’ Great Battle Thanks to an Imperial Coup

Marvel’s “Battle of Jakku” Star Wars comics have focused on the Imperial scramble for power after Endor, and that conflict just reached a pivot point.

After Return of the Jedi, Han Solo and Princess Leia work in different parts of the New Republic. Leia helps develop the political side, and Han helps Chewbacca in the field to liberate his people and home planet of Kashyyyk from the Empire. When Han gets word that his pregnant wife has been attacked, he leaves his best friend behind, even though he’s struggling, because Han knows one thing: his family is in trouble, and he cannot have that. Once a man with very few personal connections in life, Han Solo has become a die-hard family man.

Han Solo’s biggest act of softness came from his wedding, and there’s no doubt that Han Solo has the biggest soft spot for the love of his life, Leia Organa. After Return of the Jedi, Han and Leia were married. Leia wore a meadow green dress, and Han wore a jacket given to him by Lando Calrissian, who said it came from Alderaan, Leia’s home planet. Alderaan was destroyed by the first Death Star, and Han only wore the jacket when Lando told him where it was from, so that he could honor the people of his newly beloved wife.

Han was once a hardened man, but then Chewbacca came along and became his best friend, and after that he fell in love with Leia, and now he is nervous about becoming a father.

In Last Stand #2, when Han Solo is rushing to make sure his wife is okay, the comic describes his feelings. It says he is a panicked husband, and a terrified father-to-be. This simple statement demonstrates Han’s character development so well. Han was once a hardened man, but then Chewbacca came along and became his best friend, and after that he fell in love with Leia, and now he is nervous about becoming a father. As Star Wars enters its post-Return of the Jedi era, Han Solo is now the franchise’s biggest softie.

Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku – Last Stand #2 will be available on January 8, 2025, from Marvel Comics.
