Does Red One Have A Post-Credits Scene?
Red One is a potential franchise starter for Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, leaving questions about whether there’s a post-credits scene teasing more to come. The 2024 Christmas movie dives into the action fantasy genre with The Rock and Evans teaming up to headline Red One‘s cast, as their characters – Callum Drift and Jack O’Malley – work together to save Santa Claus (J.K. Simmons) and Christmas. The combination of their star power and the widespread appeal of Christmas made the movie one that had franchise and sequel aspirations from the moment it was announced.
The possibility of Red One 2 being made already exists, even if a sequel has yet to be formally announced. Despite any issues that Amazon MGM ran into with Red One‘s budget, the film’s hope in the conceptual stages to introduce audiences to “a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre” speaks for itself when it comes to the intention of more movies being made. As a result, the idea that Red One could include a post-credits scene teasing more from the franchise would make sense – but a surprising decision was made instead.
Red One Does Not Have A Post-Credits Scene
The Movie Leaves The Future Open-Ended
It is confirmed that Red One does not include a post-credits scene of any kind. There is not a mid-credits or after-credits scene included that is meant to set up a sequel, pay off a lingering plotline, or deliver a final joke. Instead, anyone who watches Red One in theaters or on streaming can rest assured knowing there is no bonus footage to be seen. It is still encouraged to sit through the credits, though, as it allows one to see the names of everyone who worked so hard on the movie.
Why Red One’s Post-Credits Scene Decision Is Surprising
The fact that there is no Red One post-credits scene is very surprising. When Amazon MGM got involved in the original action Christmas movie as a starring vehicle for The Rock, his company Seven Bucks Productions described the film (per Variety) as one that “could reach beyond entertainment across multiple industries and businesses.” Essentially, Johnson and his team had franchise aspirations for Red One from the very beginning. This desire can even be seen in bringing his Jumanji franchise director aboard to try and replicate the success with an original property.
Dwayne Johnson’s original movies like
Red Notice
and
Skyscraper
did not include post-credits scenes either
The lack of an after-credits scene for Red One also goes against Dwayne Johnson’s recent franchise behavior. He included some variation of a credits scene with Black Adam, DC League of Super-Pets, Jumanji: The Next Level, and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. He was even the big surprise in Fast X‘s post-credits scene. But since most of his films’ post-credits teases have yet to go anywhere, perhaps that explains Johnson leaving one out of Red One since a sequel is not guaranteed to come.
