Dikembe Mutombo will always be remembered for his strength on the court, but also as a humanitarian, a father, a husband and as a friend. The late NBA legend retired from basketball in 2009 and went on to become the NBA’s Global Ambassador and a Hall of Fame member.

In September 2024, Dikembe died from brain cancer, the NBA confirmed in a statement, which read, “NBA Global Ambassador and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo passed away today at the age of 58 from brain cancer. He was surrounded by his family.”
