Cyberpunk 2: 10 Great Gangs That Must Be Included In 2077’s Sequel

Gangs make up the majority of the enemies in Cyberpunk 2077. From the beastly Animals to the chrome-happy members of Maelstrom, these characters populate the map with random encounters and act as goons for the real antagonists of the game. The gangs in Night City need to be interesting for the game to work, and they are, but there are many other options for violent groups within the setting.

After all, Cyberpunk started out as a TTRPG and has tons of lore and groups of characters that have yet to appear in video game form. That means there are many options for CD Projekt Red to include in the inevitable sequel to the role-playing game, pulled from the tabletop source material. These ten gangs would make fun and interesting enemies, as well as potential allies in any future Cyberpunk content.

10 The Steel Slaughter Slammers Could Introduce Chromer Gangs

Rock And Roll Plays An Important Role In Cyberpunk

The gangs within Cyberpunk’s world are often divided into groups, based on their behavior and the goals they center around. Chromer gangs, like the Steel Slaughter Slammers, are themed around music, for example. These gangs see their favorite bands as prophets and take the lyrics of their songs as gospel to be fulfilled to the letter.

You’re Missing Out On This Cool Aspect Of Cyberpunk 2077’s Worldbuilding

Tons of little details about Night City and the world of Cyberpunk 2077 exist within the scanner hustles found throughout the open world.

The Steel Slaughter Slammers worship a rock band called Total Anarchy, and for that reason, fit into the aesthetic of Cyberpunk 2077 quite nicely. Rock and rebellion are core parts of the game’s identity, and Johnny Silverhand’s character struggles with the meaning of his own actions as a rock star. The Slammers could represent the moral problems with blind idolatry and literal interpretations of guiding texts, in a way that feels right at home within grungy Night City.

9 The Piranhas Love To Party

A Gang With Simple Yet Chaotic Designs

The Piranhas are featured heavily in Cyberpunk Red and are a perfect example of a party gang. These guys are all about a constant party lifestyle: drinking, dancing, and casually committing violent crimes. They care little for long-term plans, wealth, or power, living entirely in the moment. Seeking feel-good moments is one of their guiding principles as a gang in the universe of Cyberpunk.

This gang, much like Maelstrom, embodies chaos within Night City’s criminal underbelly in Cyberpunk 2077. Their antics are certainly more lighthearted than the implant-obsessed killers, but they are just as unpredictable and prone to recklessness due to their constant pursuit of happiness, by any means necessary. Fans of the TTRPG would no doubt enjoy seeing them return, even if they diminished in strength after the fourth corporate war that takes place in the franchise.

8 The Julliard Could Be Allies To The Artistically Inclined

Defenders Of The Arts

The Julliard are a defensive gang, focusing their efforts on mitigating violence rather than causing it. As their name suggests, they are an artistic bunch, mainly focusing on street performers. Night City is a dangerous place, especially for those without weapons in public, and this gang was formed to defend those who can’t defend themselves.

There are few street performers to be found in
Cyberpunk 2077
, save the occasional guitar player. This may change if the Julliard gang makes a reappearance.

With the mantra “kill a mime, go to jail,” the Julliard consists of and protects low-level artists who often don’t have much of a voice. They use weapons like weighted instruments and are notoriously loyal, willing to attack even high-profile folks when their gang is threatened. Despite their good intentions, the Julliard often got into it with other, more violent gangs in the city.

7 The Elvises Are The Kings Of Posers

A Fascinating And Fun Component Of The Cyberpunk World

Another gang archetype that saw little to no representation within Cyberpunk 2077 is composed of the poser gangs, who cybernetically modify themselves to appear like one person or center themselves around one theme. The Elvises are among the most iconic of these groups, even if they reside in Nashville instead of Night City. Rather straightforwardly, the entire group has modified themselves to physically resemble Elvis Presley.

Their leader, called “the King” is thought of as a prophet of the musician himself, though he is identical to each of his followers, making his identity hard to pinpoint. The idea of a gang made up of identical characters all trying to appear as the same person could be neat to explore in another Cyberpunk game, and it would certainly make things easier for the character designers.

6 The Willows Are Reminiscent Of The Mox

A Gang To Protect The Downtrodden

The Mox is a mostly friendly gang in Cyberpunk 2077, made up of sex workers, queer folk, and other social outcasts that team up to protect themselves and each other from the harsh landscape that is Night City. They share much in common with another support gang in Cyberpunk lore – the Willows. This group consists of female veterans and assassins who protect women, usually by employing violence.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Coolest Gang Has A Tragic Origin Story

Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City is the home to many gangs, each with their own rich history. The youngest of which has its origins steeped in tragedy.

They grew out of the remains of the Willow Sisterhood, a poser gang of for-hire assassins that was destroyed after a corporate war. Their remaining members formed this new group to pick up where they left off, though they no longer work as much with corporations. Given the Mox’s priorities in Cyberpunk 2077, it might make sense for the two gangs to team up if threatened by another gang, like the Tyger Claws.

5 The Philharmonic Vampyres Are Dangerous Pranksters

This Gang Deserves Admittance For Its Name Alone

The Philharmonic Vampyres, explored in the above video from DarthMatusHolocron, are a super neat gang, and not just for their wild name. These Joker-wannabes form what is known as a “prankster gang, which specializes in playing practical jokes on others and wreaking havoc. While these pranks can occasionally be lighthearted, they can often veer into torture and cruelty towards their victims. The intention is not to necessarily wreak havoc, but to indulge themselves with fun, even if at the expense of others.

The Philharmonics often targeted the Julliard in the past, and are not above punching down with their pranks. As fun as it might be to have a group of jokers terrorizing Night City, they could easily become scary antagonists, with no sympathy for others or care for the fear they cause. A group with seemingly nothing to lose and everything to gain from practical jokes can become an instant threat in the world of Cyberpunk.

4 The Yellow Brick Road Gang Is Just Ridiculous Enough To Fit In

Lions And Tigers And Bears, Oh My

This poser gang is defined by their love of the classic movie The Wizard of Oz. They love it so much that each of their members has had extensive surgery to resemble Oz’s characters, mostly the Tin Man and Scarecrow. This gang is definitely out there as far as Cyberpunk goes, but they might be just ridiculous enough to feature in a mission or two in a sequel game.

The book,
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
, is within the public domain, but the movie version is not, which may pose issues for the character’s inclusion within a violent game.

The gang is led by a woman going by Dorothy, and peddles a hallucinatory drug they call Emerald City. It could be interesting to see a plot line where the Yellow Brick Road Gang goes up against another group for control of the drug trade, with them taking advantage of their hallucinatory substance to create a technicolor nightmare in their enemy’s heads.

3 The Wild Things Could Be A Formidable Antagonistic Force

One Of The Oldest Gangs In The City

The Wild Things are one of the more serious gangs in the game, especially in comparison with the Yellow Brick Road gang. They are a “dorpher” crew, distributing and making drugs, made up entirely of talented veterans and experienced fighters. Each of their members has worked extensively with at least one other crew before and is so renowned that any one of them can recognize every other.

The gang rewarded their members well and got up to some serious crimes, bringing down the wrath of the Cyberpunk corporations on their heads. Officially, the Wild Things fell apart after the fourth corporate war, with Militech crushing them under its steel boot. But even after that, they continued to exist in some form or another, participating in gladiatorial blood sports and taking over businesses. A return of the Wild Things could be very bad for Night City.

2 The Dragula Racers Could Highlight The Game’s Driving Competitions

Road Racing Just Got Spookier

The Dragula Racers have fun lore to match their name. Each of the members of this gang modifies themselves to resemble Halloween monsters, like Dracula or the Wolfman. Then, they drag race through the streets of the city, using modified hearses for maximum spookiness. Translated into a possible sequel, these gang members could possibly even make references to all sorts of horror icons in Cyberpunk, from classics to modern movies in the genre.

Every New Vehicle In Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty DLC

Cyberpunk 2077’s DLC will broaden the game’s selection of vehicles greatly, with over ten new vehicles confirmed for Phantom Liberty so far.

This gang seems like fun and could make for a great group of NPCs to center a racing story around. Cyberpunk 2077 included a lot of vehicle combat and street racing, and a sequel could explore that with this group of Halloween horror heads. This could come in the form of racing-themed side quests that even offer players the chance to unlock cosmetics that allow them to look like their favorite Halloween characters.

1 The Inquisitors Would Juxtapose Perfectly With Maelstrom

A Group Violently Opposed To Cyberware

Finally, the next Cyberpunk game should definitely include at least one cult gang, and the Inquisitors would be the perfect choice. These gang members hate chrome with a passion, believing cyberware and body modification to be blasphemous. They are natural enemies of groups like Maelstrom, with whom they have a longstanding rivalry due to their opposing world views.

The Inquisitors M.O. involves tearing cyberware out of living people and hunting those who flaunt their body mods. Though many people hate them, they tend to blend into crowds and avoid the showiness of other gangs. They have no colors or tags, no theme to organize around besides hate. Given all of this, they could make a great antagonistic force in a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, and maybe even get the player to sympathize with Maelstrom, which is notoriously antagonistic in nature.
