Billy The Kid Season 3: Cast, Story & Everything We Know

Billy The Kid season 3 will continue the story of Tom Blyth’s infamous Wild West outlaw when the show returns to MGM+, although it has now been confirmed that season 3 will also be the last. Debuting in 2022, Billy the Kid stars Tom Blyth as Henry McCarty, the real-life outlaw much more commonly known as Billy the Kid. Through exciting action, and a small amount of revisionism, Billy the Kid fleshes out the life of the outlaw and tells a refreshingly modern western story.

The first two seasons have documented Billy’s early career joining the 7 Rivers Gang alongside Pat Garrett and the Lincoln County war that followed, as well as the emergence of the Santa Fe Ring. The sophomore outing ended with Billy escaping custody and setting the stage for the final period of his short life, and MGM+ has given a green light for the third and final season to enter production. With the third season guaranteed as the last, there is already high anticipation for the inevitable and bloody conclusion of the life of Billy the Kid.

Season 3 Is Confirmed As The Last

Though news regarding the western series had slowed to a trickle throughout the middle of 2024, that latest update confirms that Billy the Kid season 3 is happening and will be the last. According to Deadline, MGM+ opted to renew the series around four months after the sophomore season’s second half went off the air. Furthermore, the final season will give the most watched series in MGM+ history a chance to end conclusively, recreating the final days of the titular character. Unsurprisingly, it’s also been confirmed that Tom Blyth will return to star in the final eight episodes.

Billy the Kid season 2 was split into two parts due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes, and that fractured outing cast doubt on the show ever returning for season 3. Fortunately, MGM+ renewed the series for a third and final season in October 2024, though many details are still elusive. The streamer has yet to provide a timeline for when season 3 can be expected to air, though it has been confirmed that Tom Blyth will reprise his role for the final set of eight episodes.

Billy The Kid Season 3 Cast

Tom Blyth Will Return As The Infamous Gunslinger

Though the entirety of the Billy the Kid season 3 cast isn’t known yet, the announcement of the final season did confirm quite a few returns. First and foremost, Tom Blyth will be back to play the titular role for the final time, and the show just wouldn’t be the same without the rising star’s charisma. Also confirmed is the return of Alex Roe as Sheriff Pat Garrett, and considering the real-life ending of the story, the vengeful officer is another must-have for season 3.

Daniel Webber will once again be on hand to play Billy’s long-time friend and rival Jesse Evans, and like Billy, Evans’ story has yet to reach its inevitable conclusion. Finally, Nuria Vega will return as Billy’s love, Dulcinea del Tobosco, and she’ll be on the lam with the notorious outlaw after she helped him escape from custody at the end of season 2.

Changing the ending could risk altering the entire trajectory of the series, and could push the concept of historical revisionism just a bit too far.

In the announcement of Billy the Kid season 3, MGM+ laid out exactly what’s at stake in the final season. However, while McCarty was a real figure the show isn’t a direct biopic, and some flourishes might be added to the outlaw’s eventual demise. With that said, season 3 will pick up after season 2’s daring finale where Dulcinea helped Billy escape from Sheriff Pat Garrett. Hellbent on revenge, Garrett will hound Billy to the ends of the Earth, and he is determined to capture the outlaw, dead or alive.

What remains to be seen is how the show will tackle the blood-soaked ending, and if any changes will be made to the story. Billy the Kid has often proven itself to be more of an artistic interpretation of Billy’s life, but the conclusion is perhaps what is best known about the short-lived western folk icon. Changing the ending could risk altering the entire trajectory of the series, and could push the concept of historical revisionism just a bit too far.
