Angelina Jolie Is ‘Exhausted’ After Reaching a Divorce Settlement With Brad Pitt, Her Lawyer Says
After eight long years, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have officially reached a divorce settlement—but their saga is far from over.
On December 33, Jolie’s divorce attorney James Simon said the actors signed off on their divorce, but warned that their agreement is just “one part” of a “long ongoing process.”
“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family,” he said in a statement to People. “This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”
According to People, a rep for Brad Pitt “declined to confirm or comment.”
Jolie has been wrapped up in contentious legal battles with Brad Pitt since filing for divorce in September 2016—including disputes over their winery and custody of their six children: Maddox, 23; Pax, 20; Zahara, 19; Shiloh, 18; and 16-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. The former couple purchased a controlling interest in Chateau Miraval, a French company comprising a home and a vineyard in the South of France, in 2008 before getting married on the property years later.
In June 2022, Pitt filed a claim against Jolie, alleging his ex-wife “sought to inflict harm” by selling her shares of the company to a Russian oligarch without Pitt’s knowledge, therefore “violating Pitt’s contractual rights.” However, the BBC reported that Jolie informed Pitt of her “painful” decision to sell in January 2021.
At the time of Pitt’s claim, a source close to Jolie denied any ill intent in the sale, calling the Fight Club actor’s lawsuit a “false narrative.”
“After the events that led to Ms. Jolie filing for divorce and her years devoted to caring for their children, Ms. Jolie and the children have not been able to return to the property, and she made the difficult decision to sell her stake in the business,” the source told People. “After making multiple offers to her ex-husband, and knowing the business will be inherited by their children, she found a business partner with experience in the alcohol industry….It’s unfortunate that after she properly and legally exited the business, Mr. Pitt is entangling her in multiple lawsuits.”
