Jacob Dutton

Played By Harrison Ford

Character: Jacob Dutton is played by Harrison Ford in 1923. Jacob took over the ranch after the deaths of Yellowstone Dutton Ranch founders, 1883‘s Margaret (Faith Hill) and James Dutton (Tim McGraw). Apart from turning the ranch into a small empire, Jacob and his wife, Cara Dutton, raised James and Margaret’s kids, Spencer and John Dutton Sr., as their own. Though he is weakened by an early assassination attempt in the series, Jacob remains the strong center of the Dutton family and the one they all look to for guidance.

Jack Dutton

He has appeared as Sean Roman in all three of the One Chicago series. Geraghty has recently had notable television roles as Ronald Pergman in Big Sky and Colin Murphy in The Fugitive. Other than 1923, Geraghty also had a recurring role in Gaslit as Peter and in Big Sky as Ronald Pergman.

Teonna

Played By Aminah Nieves

Character: While fans knew the series would focus on a new generation of the Dutton family, many were unprepared for 1923‘s most shocking storyline based of real events. Teonna, played by Aminah Nieves, is an Indigenous American stuck in a Catholic boarding school where she suffers abuse from nuns and priests. Much of the season deals with her escape and fight for freedom as her sadistic abusers hunt her.

Conversations around Teonna hint that she could be related to Yellowstone‘s Thomas Rainwater, chief of the Confederated Tribes of Broken Rock and that her fate in 1923 will reveal more about Thomas’s family history.

Banner Creighton

Character: Portrayed in another captivating performance by Jerome Flynn, 1923‘s Banner Creighton is an immigrant and sheepherder who is fighting with the local ranchers for grasslands. In Paradise Valley, Banner is one of the few people willing to butt heads with Jacob and Cara. When he decides to take more drastic measures against his new enemies, Banner finds some powerful allies who also want to see the Duttons removed from the land.

Donald Whitfield

Character: As 1923 is a story about the Duttons, it wouldn’t be complete without a villain tough enough to take on this family, which is where Donald Whitfield comes in. Donald is a foreign land developer seeking to take over not just the Dutton ranch, but the entire valley — with a little help from Banner Creighton. He is a man who is after power by any means and shows how greed gives way to some more sadistic habits as well. This only adds to his chilling villainous presence in the show.

Mamie Fossett

Played By Jennifer Carpenter

Character: Jennifer Carpenter joins the 1923 cast in its second season as a character named Mamie Fossett. Carpenter plays Marnie Fossett, a highly-skilled U.S. Deputy Marshall who serves warrants and makes arrests with confidence ahead of her time. “She had intended to homestead in the area and became one of the first female U.S. Marshals,” Carpenter said (via TV Fanatic). “Not to do clerical work behind a desk, but to go and work the territory.”

Character: Janet Montgomery joins the cast of 1923 in the second season as Hillary, a “thoughtful woman who longs for justice.” Hillary will be someone who does not want to see injustice go unpunished. “Forever grateful for every opportunity I get to do what I love. Pinching myself over this one,” Montgomery said (via Instagram).
