10 One Piece Characters With Seriously Weird Designs
Even decades later Eichiiro Oda’s creative and often seriously wacky character designs remain one of the most distinctive features of One Piece, making up a major part of the series’ charm. Though Oda’s art style has greatly evolved over the years, this particular aspect of the series remains consistent with more and more iconic, unforgettable characters introduced in every new arc.
That said, besides characters with cool designs like perhaps Doflamingo, Katakuri, and Loki, One Piece also has its fair share of characters with inexplicably weird designs who are sure to elicit a good laugh every single time they make an appearance. More than the conventionally pleasing characters, it is these wacky characters that truly showcase Eiichiro Oda’s creativity, making them just as deserving of a spotlight of their own.
10 Hamburg
Captain Foxy’s Most Loyal Mate
As hated as the Long Ring Long Land Arc may be, it does introduce some of One Piece’s funniest characters in the form of the Foxy Pirates, with the weirdest being Hamburg, the leader of the Groggy Monsters. While it is unclear what exact role Hamburg plays in the crew, he is one of the central members closest to Foxy and stands out quite well due to his ape-ish appearance. While Hamburg may not have the weirdest character design in One Piece, his oddly rectangular body and tiny round head do make him quite a funny sight to behold.
9 Charlotte Citron
A Prime Example of One Piece‘s Wacky Body Proportions
Though her triplet sisters Smoothie and Cinnamon often get all the attention for their unusually long legs, Charlotte Citron is easily the most peculiar-looking member of the Longleg Tribe in One Piece. What makes Citron stand out is her triangular head and small face which, together with her thickset build and long legs, makes her quite memorable even though she only makes a few select appearances in the series.
8 Charlotte Chiboust
A Charlotte Family Member With One of the Weirdest Head Shapes
Charlotte Chiboust is the thirtieth son of the Charlotte Family with a wacky appearance much like many of his siblings. Chiboust makes his most notable appearance on Cacao Island along with his siblings as they prepare to ambush Luffy when he escapes from the Mirro-World.
That said, this short cameo is enough to turn heads thanks to his uniquely-shaped head and weird body proportions. Attached to Chiboust’s head are some mysterious cylindrical protrusions that make him look almost like the helm of a ship. It is unclear whether these are attached to his body or simply a fashion choice, but either route makes Chiboust quite a peculiar character.
7 Captain Very Good
A Marine With A Weird Design to Match His Name
First introduced during the Buster Call on Enies Lobby, Captain Very Good immediately leaves a strong impression, if not for his odd name then his just-as-odd appearance. With his name being a Japanese pun on the word “berry” Captain Very Good fittingly wields the power of the Berry-Berry Fruit, which may explain the appearance of his round, shiny head.
The Berry-Berry Fruit gives Very Good the power to split his body into multiple berry-like spheres which makes him quite a handful in combat while also being incredibly goofy to look at.
6 Fukuro
A Cipher Pol Agent Who Can Literally “Zip It”
Though best known for his iconic laugh, Fukuro’s mysterious zipper mouth also makes him one of the wackier characters in One Piece. First introduced as a CP9 agent at Enies Lobby, Fukuro’s zipper mouth never seems to stop him from running his mouth, making his character quite an ironic one in that sense.

While One Piece sports a massive ensemble cast, each of their powers are unique and differ in interesting ways. However, a few stand out.
Interestingly, in the SBS section of volume 44, Oda provides an illustration of the CP9 members as children, where Fukuro still sports the zipper mouth, implying that he may have been born with it. To this day, One Piece has yet to provide a logical reason for Fukuro’s odd mouth, though perhaps with him being promoted to CP0, he may still make one more appearance to explain the mystery before One Piece ends.
5 Charlotte Mondée
Who Needs a Separate Chin, Neck, and Shoulders Anyway?
One Charlotte family sibling whose design does not get talked about nearly enough is Mondée, Big Mom’s second-eldest daughter and sixth child overall. Mondée makes her most prominent appearance in One Piece when she crosses paths with Luffy on Nuts Island where Luffy uses the captured Brûlée as a shield against Mondée.
Although she hails from the Snakeneck Tribe like her quadruplet sisters, Charlotte Mondée’s neck seems to converge with her shoulders and chest, with her utter lack of a chin only adding to her peculiar appearance.
4 Wadatsumi
One Piece‘s Weirdest Fishman
Of all the fishmen One Piece has introduced fans to, Wadatsumi is easily the most unforgettable, not only for his unconventional appearance but also his heroic deeds throughout the Fishman Island Arc as well as the Whole Cake Island Arc. Modeled after a Japanese pufferfish, Wadatsumi sports circular eyes with pronounced nostrils.
However, what truly makes his appearance rather unsettling are his rounded, spaced-out teeth and his thin beard. Despite possessing noticeable facial and body hair, Wadatsumi’s physique and mannerisms remain childlike, making him quite a walking contradiction.
3 Charlotte Kato
A Pumpkin Head Straight Out of The Sleepy Hollow
Yet another seriously-weird-looking member of the Charlotte family is Kato, the forty-ninth child and the Minister of Seeds of Tottoland. Also known as Fructose in the official translation by Viz, Kato sports a pumpkin-like head with green shaggy hair resembling leaves. Oddly, his appearance does not stem from any peculiar devil fruit, with Kato looking wildly different from his triplet brothers Montb and Kanten.
That said, though Kato makes his debut well into the Wholecake Island Arc, his peculiar pumpkin head does make him one of the memorable children of the Charlotte family.
2 Charlotte Opera
The “Drippiest” Charlotte Sibling
Unlike his fairly normal-looking twins, Charlotte Opera’s devil fruit powers quite literally make him the Charlotte Family’s drippiest sibling and also one of the wackiest-looking characters in One Piece. Opera is Big Mom’s tenth child and the eldest of a set of quintuplets, along with being Tottoland’s Minister of Cream.
Opera’s devil fruit, the Cream-Cream Devil Fruit, causes his entire body to be covered with an endless amount of dripping white cream. Much like Magellan, Opera’s fruit is also a Paramecia that generates the substance they control, making Opera a walking cream dispensary.
1 Vice Admiral Red King
A Marine Who Sports Chins for Days
Though a fairly recently introduced character, Vice Admiral Red King’s wacky appearance raises multiple questions. Red King makes his debut during the Egghead Arc aboard one of the many ships making their way to the island and though he appears only momentarily, even this brief glimpse is enough to make viewers do a double take.
While he possesses otherwise human features, Red King’s standout feature is his long neck, or rather, his lofty stack of six chins in total. Unfortunately, Vice Admiral Red King does not seem to use his long neck to his advantage in battle, but that still does not stop him from being one of the weirdest if not the funniest looking characters in One Piece.
One Piece is available from Netflix and Crunchyroll.
