Charli XCX’s Next Album Might Be ‘Completely the Opposite’ of ‘Brat’

Charli XCX might have taken over 2024 with her Brat era, but something new might be on the horizon for the pop star as she works on her new album.

The breakthrough album’s co-writer and co-producer Finn Keane told Grammy.com that the 32-year-old star has “a desire” to “do the complete opposite thing again, which is very in keeping with her ethos.” He added, “Some of the conversations we’re having and music we’ve been playing around with the last couple of months have been completely the opposite [of Brat]. I love that spirit. It’s the iconoclastic impulse to rebuild something completely different, to show that you actually could do this other thing.”

Keane continued, “It’s been really funny, in the months after finishing the remix album, any other musical discussion that has taken place has been kind of anti-Brat. I doubt that’ll stick, but that’s been a really interesting thing to observe and makes me very optimistic and excited about [what’s next].”

Charli is fresh off her first-ever Grammy wins. Her track “Von Dutch” won the award for best dance pop recording on Sunday night (Feb. 2) and Brat took home the win for best dance/electronic album.

As 2025 continues to take off for the star, she’s reportedly producing — and possibly starring in — a new movie she conceptualized. Per Variety, Charli is teaming up with A24 for a film titled The Moment, which will be based on her own original idea. Details about the plot and characters have yet to be revealed, but the film marks the first undertaking of the singer’s new production company, Studio365.
