Alex Caruso: Signing extension with OKC ‘would be awesome’

Caruso was thrilled to be dealt back to the franchise where he began his pro career … if admittedly “caught off guard” when he first heard about the deal. He simply insists now, in true Thunder fashion, that he has nothing on his mind other than helping Oklahoma City compete for this season’s crown and championships beyond. Yet he did allow that locking in a four-year future with this group “would be awesome.”

Hartenstein makes such a major impact rebounding, and not only from the ones he gets, but the ones he keeps alive. Contested that one and allowed Caruso to hawk it down. – 10:21 PM

Fantastic ball movement by OKC, Shai fires it to Caruso in the dunker spot with a touch pass to Jalen Williams for 3. Goes a long way in the Thunder nursing this lead. – 10:19 PM

More on this storyline

Golden State, as one recent example, offered multiple first-round draft picks for Caruso at last February’s trade deadline and was even willing to part with Moses Moody, along with other players, sources said, in a trade construction that could have also landed Torrey Craig and Andre Drummond with Golden State. That’s the same Moody, of course, who came to terms with the Warriors on a Caruso-esque contract extension in October: $39 million over three years. -via marcstein.substack.com / December 21, 2024
“Obviously this is a place that I think is ascending and that’s something I want to be a part of,” Caruso told me. “That’s why I’m here. I think the writing is on the wall. People don’t trade for guys in the last year of their contracts unless they expect to keep ’em for a while. “That’s just the business part of it. So I’m looking forward to having that conversation with Sam [Presti]. Everything that the Thunder stand for are things that I stand for. I think their focus, their drives and desires, are the same as mine. It’s been a good fit and I’m looking forward to hopefully a couple more years.” That roughly $20 million average annual value that Caruso is eligible for is a ballpark that he and his side of the negotiations would naturally welcome. -via marcstein.substack.com / December 21, 2024
“I don’t think it’s a personal issue because we’ve played on Christmas nine times,” Thunder president Sam Presti said after the schedule was revealed. “We have to earn it … we’ve got to go out there and show them we’re capable.” Presti, who has run the team since 2007, is known for his culture-setting. As a franchise tenet, the Thunder preach humility, seem to actively avoid attention, and by league standards don’t talk that much trash. “We’re a young team and a lot of times in the league you have to earn your stripes, you really don’t get given anything,” said guard Alex Caruso. “For us, it isn’t about how loud you are. It’s about getting the job done.” -via ESPN / December 18, 2024
