3 People Killed in Shooting Outside a Kentucky Driver’s License Office

Three people were fatally shot outside a driver’s license office in Louisville, Ky., on Friday, and several people fled in a vehicle, the police said.
The Louisville Metro Police Department told residents to stay away from the Driver Licensing Regional Office at 6202 Willismore Drive, near Dixie Highway, where a large group of law enforcement personnel had responded to the shooting at noon.
The victims were found in the parking lot, the police said in a statement posted to social media. One man died at the scene and two women were taken to a hospital, where they died, the police said.
There were “no known suspects,” the police said in the statement. When asked if the shooting was a murder-suicide,
Maj. Donald Boeckman, a division commander, said no.
He said at a news conference that aired on local television stations that officials were still investigating, collecting video surveillance and interviewing witnesses. The police did not have preliminary information about a motive or whether the three victims were connected, he said.
Allen Blair, a spokesman for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, which oversees the state’s licensing offices, said the shooting happened outside the building, and the employees in the office were safe.
“We did have security at the office, and locked down the building immediately,” he said. “Employees are leaving and the office will be closed the remainder of the day.”
Michael Levenson contributed reporting.
