Part of the London Underground could be brought to a standstill within weeks after train drivers’ strike over pay.
Aslef the union announced its train driver members will stage fresh industrial action on the Elizabeth line.
The strike could paralyse part of the Elizabeth Line Tube if it goes ahead.
Mick Whelan, the general secretary of Aslef, accused MTR, which runs the Elizabeth line, of not recognising the ‘input, the importance, and the value of train drivers’ in the line’s success.

He said: ‘Our members have been instrumental in the success of the Elizabeth line – it’s a partnership, in practice, between the company and its employees – but, despite our best efforts, MTR has decided not to recognise the input, the importance, and the value of train drivers in this success.’
Here are the Elizabeth line strike dates that are set to bring travel disruption in London.
Elizabeth line strike dates
- Thursday, February 27
- Saturday, March 1
- Saturday, March 8
- Monday, March 10
The drivers will walk out from 00.01am until 11.59pm.
Nigel Gibson, one of Aslef’s district organisers, said: ‘Taking action is always a last resort, because we do not want to inconvenience passengers and our members do not want to lose money, and I hope that the company, seeing the strength of feeling amongst our members, their drivers, will do the right thing and return to the negotiating table.’
MTR said it is ‘disappointed’ over the decision.
Mike Bagshaw, the managing director for MTR Elizabeth line, told Metro: ‘We are disappointed that drivers on the Elizabeth line have rejected a 4.5% pay rise and voted for industrial action.
