Jordan Brewster’s New Movie Just Threw Shade At Dwayne Johnson’s Fast & Furious Spinoff Amid Awkward Vin Diesel Feud

Jordana Brewster of Fast & Furious fame is the star of a new horror movie, Heart Eyes, and she’s involved in a joke that throws shade at Dwayne Johnson and his spinoff in the franchise. Brewster’s Mia Toretto has been part of the Fast & Furious since the beginning, with Johnson’s Luke Hobbs joining the series a decade later in 2011. Both have remained key figures in recent installments, even if their screentime has diminished. There’s a story reason behind that change for Mia, but Hobbs’ sidelining seemingly came due to Johnson and Vin Diesel’s feud.

Any issues that Diesel and other co-stars had with Johnson were seemingly put to bed since he reprised his role in Fast X‘s post-credits scene. While franchise veterans like Tyrese Gibson spoke out against Johnson and his push to make the Hobbs & Shaw spinoff movie, someone like Brewster never really got involved publicly. She’s instead focused on making more Fast & Furious movies and taking parts in a variety of other projects, including her major role in Heart Eyes‘ ending. Now, her new movie allowed her to crack a joke at the expense of Dwayne Johnson and his spinoff.

Jordana Brewster Is Involved In A Joke On Hobbs & Shaw’s Behalf In Heart Eyes

Dwayne Johnson’s Fast & Furious Spinoff Is Mentioned

Although Heart Eyes is rooted in horror and romance, there is also a great deal of comedy in the film. One of the film’s funniest jokes for Fast & Furious fans comes as Brewster’s character and her cop partner introduce themselves to the main characters. This is because they are named Shaw and Hobbs. It doesn’t take long for the Heart Eyes leads to switch around the order and say that their names are like the movie, referring to Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Instead of leaving the reference at that, Brewster’s character chimes in.

Shaw and Hobbs are both initially confused by Ally and Jay’s reference, suggesting that they are not aware of the Dwayne Johnson spinoff movie. This is confirmed moments later when they both say they’ve never seen it. On one hand, this could be seen as just a harmless joke included in Heart Eyes meant to poke fun at the cops having the same names as Johnson and Jason Statham’s Fast & Furious characters. Brewster’s involvement in the joke changes it a bit, as there’s a meta quality involved, suggesting that maybe she never saw the spinoff either.

Jordana Brewster’s Hobbs & Shaw Joke Is More Awkward Following Dwayne Johnson & Vin Diesel’s Fast & Furious Feud

The Johnson & Diesel Feud Continues To Linger

The timing of Heart Eyes‘ joke about Hobbs & Shaw only adds to the discomfort. Johnson and Diesel’s feud over Fast & Furious became very public in recent years, which is what made the apparent reconciliation for Fast X such a surprise. However, it’s become clear that while the two men may have cleared the air enough to be in the same movie again, there is still some awkwardness. This was perfectly displayed during the 2025 Golden Globes when Diesel’s “Hey Dwayne” went viral.

Instead of attempting to leave the feud in the dust and move forward, the Heart Eyes joke becomes the latest public jab at Johnson and his Fast & Furious spinoff. Even if the joke was in the script and not something that Brewster added, her involvement makes it more personal. She’s now part of a joke about people not seeing Hobbs & Shaw and seemingly having no interest in doing so. It’s still a funny moment in Heart Eyes by itself, but Johnson would likely have the same straight-faced response as he did Diesel’s public shout-out.

Heart Eyes Suggests How Fast & Furious Cast Members Feel About Johnson’s Spinoff

Have Any Of Them Seen Hobbs & Shaw?

Hobbs and Shaw Jason Statham Hallway 5

The real shade thrown at Hobbs & Shaw in Heart Eyes by Brewster is the suggestion that a lot of people didn’t see the film. The film’s $760 million box office total says otherwise, but perhaps that’s not what really matters. Although the spinoff was a success, Hobbs hasn’t returned for a starring role since then, and the main Fast & Furious movies have never addressed the movie’s events. The franchise is treating the film as if it doesn’t exist or matter. The Heart Eyes joke plays into that narrative.

Some of the Fast & Furious cast members were against Johnson getting a spinoff movie in the first place. It’s quite possible then that some of them never went on to watch the film. While Brewster’s stance is not known, she could be among those who did not like how Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel’s feud played out. She may not have ever seen Hobbs & Shaw in real life then. In that way, Brewster would be a lot like her character in Heart Eyes.
