Where Is XO Kitty Filmed? To All The Boys Spinoff’s Filming Locations Explained

Netflix’s XO, Kitty
showcases various iconic Korean locations in the city of Seoul, perfectly matching Kitty’s discovery of her heritage through research about her mother Eve first, and her side of the family later. The premise of XO, Kitty being about Kitty learning more about her Korean heritage and wanting to feel closer to her late mother makes Seoul a central character in Netflix’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before spinoff. Through the search for Eve’s past, Kitty discovers herself and slowly makes Seoul another place to call home.

The filming locations of XO, Kitty seasons 1 and 2 reflect Kitty’s search. With the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS) being in the capital, most filming locations are in Seoul, too. However, school trips and holidays outside of Seoul also allow the show to feature other areas the XO, Kitty characters visit.

Incheon International Airport

In XO, Kitty episode 1, Kitty lands at Incheon International Airport. The scenes at the airport in the series premiere are shot at Incheon Airport (via Netflix) with the busy atmosphere of the airport being fully reflected in the episode’s beginning.

Kaywon University of Art and Design

Korean Independent School Of Seoul (KISS)

The focus of the To All The Boys spinoff places XO, Kitty’s action to happen mostly at KISS. The Kaywon University of Art and Design doubles as the Korean Independent School of Seoul, with most of the exteriors of the school Kitty attends with her friends being shot there in both seasons.

KISS Hike Across Seoul

The KISS hike around Seoul of XO, Kitty episode 4 that Kitty only joins to talk to Dae takes place in Seojangdae. A former military command post, Seojangdae was established in the late 1700s and boasts breathtaking panoramic views of Seoul.

Min Ho’s Madness Party is a turning point for Kitty in XO, Kitty season 1, and its location Rubik shares the name with where it was filmed. In reality, Rubik is nonetheless a jazz club, not a nightclub, in Paradise City Resort near Incheon International Airport.

National Library Of Korea, Sejong

Korean Independent School of Seoul Library

The punishment for breaking curfew is for most KISS students to spend eight hours studying in the school’s library in XO, Kitty episode 7. The National Library of Korea, Sejong doubles as KISS’s Library, with its modern environment perfectly matching how the Korean Independent School of Seoul is shown to be.

Kitty and Yuri’s search for clues about Jina and Eve’s friendship finally kickstarts their friendship in XO, Kitty episode 7.

Yeongheung Island

KISS Camping Trip

The school’s camping trip is a pivotal moment, as it allows Kitty and Dae to finally be together as Kitty starts to realize her feelings for Yuri. The location for the trip is Yeongheung Island, positioned southwest of Seoul, with filming happening in multiple parts of it.

Nodeul Island

Riverside Walk Where Alex & Jina Meet

The catalyst for XO, Kitty season 1’s ending is Jina and Alex’s meeting by the riverside when he finally tells Jina he is her son. The momentous scene is shot on Nodeul Island, situated between the north and south parts of Seoul in the Han River.

Sejong Village Food Street

Yuri’s Welcome Barbecue Dinner

Yuri’s barbecue dinner to welcome back her friends to school is crucial in XO, Kitty season 2’s premiere, introducing Stella and having Kitty and Min Ho finally talk about his plane confession. The setting for it is Sejong Village Food Street Market, (via The Direct) a popular destination for food lovers close to Gyeongbokgung Palace.

Club MWG (Myoung Wol Gwan), Hongdae

LGBTQ Club In Itaewon

Kitty and Praveena’s first date is at an LGBTQ club in Itaewon, where the pair meets many of Kitty’s friends beyond Yuri and Juliana. Jin’s Joshua Hyunho Lee revealed (via The Mirror US) they shot those scenes at a real LGBTQ club called MGW, situated in Hongdae.

Alpensia Ski Resort, Pyeongchang County

Min Ho’s Place At Alpensia Ski Resort

The dramatic reveal of Kitty’s romantic feelings for Yuri and their kiss takes place at Min Ho’s place in the Alpensia Ski Resort. While it’s unknown which specific location doubles as Min Ho’s residence, the filming took place around the Alpensia Ski Resort area, in Pyeongchang County.

Bukjeong Village

Bukjeon, Where Kitty’s Other Side Of The Song Family Lives

Kitty’s trip to find Simon’s side of her mother’s family is said to lead her to Bukjeon. In reality, Kitty and Min Ho’s trip to her family’s place was filmed in Bukjeong Village, in the district of Seongbuk, in the north area of Seoul, where historic Korean alleyways can still be found.

Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam District

Where Kitty & Her Friends Often Hang Out Off Campus

Kitty and her friends can often be seen away from the KISS campus to meet for coffee or boba tea. The area where those scenes are filmed is Nonhyeon-dong in the Gangnam district, where Q and Juliana spot Stella in XO, Kitty season 2, episode 6, and Kitty challenges her in season 2, episode 7.

Q and Juliana see Stella enter an internet cafe in XO, Kitty season 2, episode 6, and while the store sign is similar, the place is a “coffee factory” in reality.

Nagcheonjeong Park and Garden

Where Q & Jin Are Running When Jin Sprains His Ankle

Q and Jin’s romance develops over athletics competitions and training, making their run by the river before Jin’s big race not seem out of place. The Lotte World Tower being perfectly visible from the pier and the bridge leading straight to that places the location of Q and Jin’s playful race when Jin sprains his ankle at the Nagcheonjeong Park and Garden.

Common Ground, Myeong-dong

Yuri Brings Dae Here To Shop For The Talent Show

Preparation for the end-of-term talent show leads Yuri and Dae to a popular shopping center, where she wants to treat him to the right outfit for the show in the hope it can lead him to win. Filming for it took place at the Common Ground, the largest shopping center made of containers in the area of Myeong-dong (via Her Campus).

Gwangjang Market

Gwangjang Market, Where Kitty Meets Soon Ja

The Song Covey family rift is central to XO, Kitty season 2, and its resolution couldn’t have happened if Jiwon hadn’t suggested for Kitty to meet her grandmother by chance at the market. The perfectly engineered meeting between Kitty and Soon Ja is filmed at Gwangjang Market, the first permanent market in Korea (via Visit Korea).

Baekje Cultural Land

Concert Venue For The KISS Talent Show

The end-of-term talent show in XO, Kitty season 2’s finale entails plenty of dramatic moments, with the most stunning backdrop contributing to its successful delivery. XO, Kitty season 2’s ending was filmed at Baekje Cultural Land (via Hey Roseanne), the largest history-themed park in Korea. The stage was built in the courtyard of Sabisung Palace, a reconstruction of a royal palace from the Three Kingdoms period. Baekje Cultural Land is in the province of Chungcheong, making it one of the southernmost filming locations for XO, Kitty.
