Osteopath’s hidden recordings lead to intensified police investigation
A new investigation into a celebrity osteopath who admitted to spying on female students has been launched after police found more recording devices at his home.
Torben Hersborg was arrested just before Christmas after he was accused of making at least 60 videos of the young women at a student halls residence in Islington, north London.
The married father-of-two pleaded guilty to spying on the students on December 10, 14 and 21 last year, Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court heard on Thursday.
Police have since found three more recording devices at his home, sparking a new investigation.
Hersborg is set to appear at the same court on January 30 and has been remanded in custody.
The Danish-born osteopath is said to have filmed and recorded the young women over a four-year period.
Police found a telescope, a camera among his possessions when he was arrested. He was wearing black gloves at the time.
The rear seat of his car had been covered with black bin liners. His recognisable vehicle had been seen lingering in the neighbourhood, and was reported to police.
Deputy District Judge Rhys Rosser warned that he was likely to face a “sentence of immediate custody”, adding that the acts of voyeurism he committed this month are believed to be “not just isolated incidents”.
Hersborg is said to be childhood friend of actor Mads Mikkelsen and moved to the UK in 1984 and has lived in London for more than 30 years.
Writer Lesley-Ann Jones, one of Hersborg’s former patients, penned an article in Express.co.uk on Thursday sharing her “horror” when she discovered his crimes.
She wrote: “As far as I was concerned, he was a genius. Besides, we were friends… Never once did I doubt his ability. I felt safe in his hands. Nor did I have misgivings that the treatment wasn’t doing me good. I trusted him totally.”
Ms Jones added: “Imagine my horror, then, when my phone pinged this week with a message from my daughter, containing a link to a report that Torben had been arrested by police.”
The Rolling Stones biographer stressed that she is “Not a nervous type”, but now, she has become “sleepless with worry”.
She wrote: “I trusted Torben Hersborg with my very life. But the life he himself was living turns out to have been the darkest double kind.”
