“A Big Part Of The MCU”: Ms Marvel’s MCU Future Addressed By Marvel Exec After Young Avengers Setup

Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum teases the future of Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Played by Iman Vellani, Kamala’s MCU debut came in the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. Vellani reprised the role for the 2023 movie The Marvels, where her character teamed up with Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and Monica Rambeau/Photon (Teyonah Parris). In one of The Marvels‘ post-credits scenes, Kamala met with Hawkeye‘s Kate Bishop to begin forming a team, which further set up the Younger Avengers in the MCU.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Winderbaum has now confirmed that Ms. Marvel is still an important part of the MCU and is “top of mind” as the franchise continues to develop. He emphasized that Ms. Marvel is a particularly essential series, but could not get into details about why this is, as it would spoil future projects. Winderbaum also expressed how eager he is to see where Ms. Marvel appears next in the MCU. Check out his comments below:

I love Iman. She’s incredible. I love that character. I will tell you that she’s certainly a big part of the MCU to me. Ms. Marvel is a really important show to us, and without going into great detail, because I don’t want to spoil anything, she is top of mind. So it’s going to be exciting to see where she pops up next.

She Is Poised To Return In A Major Way

Winderbaum’s comments indicate that Ms. Marvel is important to the MCU’s future, but those plans are being kept under wraps. Vellani is confirmed to be part of Marvel Zombies‘ cast, although the animated series takes place in an alternate timeline. Winderbaum’s remarks about the importance of the Ms. Marvel series and of her character indicate that other stories where she is an important character are in development. Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars are possibilities given the extensive roster of heroes expected to appear in those movies.

Only a handful of MCU movies and TV shows have been led by powerful female superheroes, and not all have been as successful as others.

Another possibility is that a Young Avengers movie or television series will finally happen. This will provide a payoff for the Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop scene at the end of The Marvels, along with all the other potential Young Avengers’ members already set up in various projects throughout the MCU. Since this project has not been officially confirmed and greenlit yet, this could explain why Winderbaum is unable to share details about where Kamala’s story is headed.

Ms. Marvel Needs To Return Sooner Rather Than Later

Kamala Khan with Kate Bishop's file in The Marvels

With Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop being two of the best characters introduced during the Multiverse Saga, a Young Avengers movie or television series would be an effective way to continue those characters’ stories. Ms. Marvel remains one of the MCU’s best-received shows, with Vellani being praised for her performance in this project and in The Marvels. The MCU needs to ensure that it is still capitalizing on one of its best characters and one of its most talented actors and should not sideline Ms. Marvel for too long.
