Kraven the Hunter, a Sony superhero blockbuster, provides pulse-pounding entertainment to viewers albeit with a mediocre storyline. Aaron Taylor-Johnson shows off his six-pack and bulging biceps in arguably his illustrious career’s most physically demanding role. Kraven the Hunter won’t win plaudits for an iconic script, nor will it walk away with Oscars for the best superhero film of the year.

Instead, it presents filmgoers with popcorn-style entertainment for the holiday season. It’s an action flick with paper-thin development and clichéd ideas. Interestingly, Kraven the Hunter derives his superhero abilities from a supernatural source – the world of mystics, where tarot cards, psychics, and powerful potions abound.

On a hunting trip with his father and brother following his mother’s untimely death, the young Sergei (Kraven) stares down a terrifying marauding lion roaming Ghana’s untamed wilderness. It is here that our unlikely hero meets his fate. It’s all thanks to a powerful mystic from Ghana who bestows her abilities upon her granddaughter, along with a vial of death-defying potion.

After a near-fatal mauling involving the young Kraven and the man-eating lion, our unsuspecting heroine administers her first dose of the potent tincture to Kraven. His mortal wounds are infused with a single drop of the mighty beast’s blood. Combined with the powerful potion and a unique tarot card, Kraven is miraculously resuscitated after being clinically dead for several minutes. And so, the unbelievable story begins. This is the tale of a superhero who tears his enemies apart with savage ferocity.

What Do Mystics Think About This Aspect of the Film?

Remember, Kraven the Hunter is a high-octane fantasy adventure from the Marvel Comics universe. Kraven is a villain in the titular Spider-Man series. The mysterious woman who helps Kraven in his hour of need is Calypso. But, of course, the dramatic and unprecedented developments are far removed from the reality of many traditional mystics’ abilities.

While an authentic clairvoyant reading has tremendous potential in terms of forecasting, interpreting, and revealing hidden truths, the tinctures that were offered to the young Sergei (a.k.a. Kraven) are more the stuff of Black Magic and sangomas than modern-day clairvoyants.

A clairvoyant certainly has innate abilities that far surpass what everyday folks are capable of. They possess a set of skills that chosen individuals are born with, opening up trans-dimensional portals into realms of existence where the space-time continuum takes on an entirely new meaning.

Mystics and psychics understand aspects of human consciousness, philosophy, spirituality, and human raison d’etre well beyond the reach of most. One of the least-understood aspects of clairvoyance is the ability to get a sense of what’s about to happen, or what may be taking place beneath the surface. On a basic level, Calypso is imbued with the generational imprint of her grandmother’s powerful psychic capabilities.

The film barely scratches the surface of how the young Calypso learns to develop her craft; suffice it to say, her powerful grandmother passed her wisdom down the line. With her exceptional tarot reading abilities – recall that three cards were turned over – Calypso is given the family heirloom – a supernatural tincture in a vial. This, combined with the tarot cards that predicted a death, a tower, and a powerful rebirth, is the story of Kraven the Hunter.

Modern-day psychics do not use tinctures the way they are portrayed in films; they do so for dramatic effect and to reel in the crowds. However, psychic readings are fully capable of predicting events, albeit in a general way in terms of guidance and direction.

Of course, only the best psychics, mystics, tarot card readers, forecasters, and soothsayers should be approached at reputable online platforms or through in-person visitations.

What’s the Verdict?

It is as far-fetched as any Marvel Universe tale, but it makes for absorbing entertainment for its two-hour runtime. For a budget of $110 million and lackluster taking for the month to date, Kraven is projected to fall short of expectations. But it’s not for a lack of action-packed entertainment and edge-of-the-seat thrills.

The script is choppy and poorly developed, and the film relies on killing scenes and CGI more than it does character development or novel ideas. Reality notwithstanding, Kraven the Hunter is an exciting, mindless R-rated blockbuster for the holiday season!
