Double Dragon Revive – Release Date, Preorders, Trailer, & Confirmed Platforms

Seven years after the last mainline Double Dragon game, Arc Sytem Works has finally announced a release date for its new entry into the classic beat-em-up franchise, Double Dragon Revive, at The Game Awards. Originally announced in July 2024, Double Dragon Revive looks to be the first true modernization of the franchise, forgoing the typical pixel style that has been present in every Double Dragon game.

Double Dragon Revive‘s recent announcement at The Game Awards 2024 came in the form of a gameplay trailer, showcasing its release date, preorder bonus, and new gameplay. While Arc System Works has been a mainstay in the gaming industry, its recent successes in the fighting game genre may hint at a total overhaul of the beloved franchise, which itself is a part of a genre that has historically seen much overlap with fighting games. It looks as though Double Dragon Revive will be a fantastic return to the glory days of the arcade, where Double Dragon found its origin in 1987.

When Double Dragon Revive Will Release

October 23, 2025

Double Dragon Revive will be released October 25, 2025. With around a year until its launch, many more details about the included content of the game will likely be revealed in due time. Currently, the planned release window has been left relatively empty by other developers, though this may change as the date approaches. It’s rather unusual for a game more than a year out to get such a specific release date, and with such a window between its reveal and release, there is certainly the potential for delays.

Despite around a year until its release, Double Dragon Revive is currently available for preorder. The preorder can be made for either the standard or deluxe version of the game, with both versions providing a preorder bonus. In line with publisher Arc System Works’ 2015 acquisition of Super Dodge Ball and the Kunio-kun franchise, the primary preorder bonus is Double Dragon Dodge Ball. The bonus game will be an entirely separate application, and is likely based upon the aforementioned franchises.

According to the Double Dragon Revive page on Arc System Works‘ website, the standard version is priced $34.99, while the deluxe edition is priced at $49.99. While both editions include the base game and dodgeball bonus game, the deluxe edition will net players some bonus colors, the industry typical artwork and soundtrack, and a 24-hour early access period.

Thus far, there has been no gameplay reveal or tease of the standalone dodgeball game. Based upon the IP that Arc System Works acquired along with Double Dragon in 2015, the game is likely, at the very least, to be an enjoyable mini-game and a further callback to the arcades of old.

Double Dragon Revive Trailer & Gameplay Details

Dynamic Interactables And Combos Are Coming With Double Dragon Revive

The preorder trailer for Double Dragon Revive didn’t contain much new information beyond the release date and open preorders. It mainly consisted of the franchise’s leading brothers, Billy and Jimmy Lee, fighting in hand to combat against an unnamed villain, presumably the primary antagonist, based on his position on the game’s cover. A standout was Billy Lee performing the Dragon’s Wrath, a Street Fighter-reminiscent Shoryuken move that looks properly flashy.

Previously released gameplay trailers do show more of the actual in-game action that will take place in Double Dragon Revive. Tokyo Game Show 2024 showcased the game for the first time with an action-packed trailer. In it, the classic, belt-scroll action gameplay appeared to be chock-full of environmental KOs, traversal options, and stage-specific weapons.

Another recent trailer released by Arc-Sys showcased two additional playable characters beyond the headlining Lee brothers. Marian Kelly appears to be an aerial, kick-based fighter, with her divekicks and combos looking similar to Streets of Rage‘s Blaze Fielding. Yagyu Ranzo has a stylish, ninja-themed moveset, spitting fireballs, throwing smoke bombs, and teleporting around the battlefield.

Its currently unknown if Double Dragon Revive will have more than four playable characters. Four does seem to be a standard number for modern beat-em-up rosters, with the excellent Streets of Rage 4 launching with a similarly sized roster of five. With nearly a year of development to go before its full release, perhaps more will be on the way.

The gameplay itself looks dynamic and flashy, with plenty of combos being showcased in the various released trailers. Combos are a major component in the under-the-hood complexity of belt-scroller action games, and with Arc System Works publishing for developer Yuke’s, Double Dragon Revive has the chance to lead the genre in the aspect of it that keeps players coming back.

All Confirmed Platforms For Double Dragon Revive

Which Consoles Double Dragon Revive Will Be Released On

DoubleDragon:Revive_Platforms

Double Dragon Revive is set to be released on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. On PC, Double Dragon Revive will be exclusive to Steam. PlayStation players will be able to purchase and play Double Dragon Revive on both PlayStation 4 and 5. It will take a similar approach on Xbox, where it will be playable on Xbox One, as well as Series X/S.

The only console absence here is the Nintendo Switch, a particularly strange choice as the Switch has often provided a home for arcade remasters, revives, and modernizations. There is still an abundance of options in terms of available platforms, and most players will likely find an outlet to play Double Dragon Revive when it launches in October 2025.
