Inside the UK’s ‘narrowest’ home worth £1m with everyone saying the same thing

England’s ‘thinnest’ house measures just 1.6 metres wide yet has doubled in value over the past decade, listed for a whopping £950,000.

Spanning just 5ft 5inches in width, certain parts of this London Victorian property isn’t large enough for a person to lie down in, being 4 inches below the height of the average UK man according to the Office for National Statistics.

Previously sold in 2009 to a lawyer, the extremely narrow home is now a squeeze on the budget as well as space, having soared to nearly £1m in value as of 2021.

In 2006, the house had high profile owners who bought the property for just £488,500.

Pride and Prejudice actor Simon Woods and his husband Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s former chief executive, called the thin lodgings home having lived there for three years.

The property was relisted in 2021 for £950,000, but according to Rightmove, the property has been sold having been removed from the site by the agent.

The property was once a Victorian hat shop and is situated on Goldhawk Road in Shepherd’s Bush.

The lower ground floor, which is 9ft 11 inches, sees the widest space in the entire building. Pictures from its listing by Winkworth estate agents in 2021 show a long dining area with double height glazed doors which lead out to a patio and garden.

The reception room on the ground floor stands at the largest measurement by length and width at 11ft by 7ft.

The first floor features a beautiful terrace with views spanning over west London. This can be reached by a spiral staircase connected to the ground floor. Two bedrooms can also be found on this floor, one of which is just 8ft 6 inches wide.

The second floor is of a similar size to the two beneath it, with a shower room, bathroom and a dressing room.

The third floor hosts another bedroom which comes with a built in bed to utilise the limited space that the property has to offer.

Estate agent David Myers told the Sun that the house in Shepherd’s Bush would appeal to “bohemian” buyers. Myers had previously attended a New Year’s Eve party in 1994.

He said: “”It was terribly bohemian – you could get lost in the different worlds over the five floors… Each owner has sprinkled their own fairy dust on it.”
