Police were called to a wealthy London road after they were told a man was carrying a gun, only to find him holding an umbrella.

Officers arrived at Addison Crescent near Holland Park, west London, yesterday after being told a man was holding a weapon.

But instead officers found a confused man holding an umbrella.

They confirmed this did not pose a threat to the public, and no arrests were made.

The Metropolitan Police said: ‘Officers attended and spoke with the man.

‘No weapon was found, and it was confirmed he was holding an umbrella. No arrests were made.’

It comes after a number of shootings have been carried out across London over the last weeks.

On Sunday a 34-year-old man and an eight-year-old girl were left with injuries after they were caught up in a shooting on Southern Row, west London.

In November Curtis Green, 30, was killed after a shooting in Sydenham, west London.

He was described by his family as ‘happy, excited and beautiful’.

They said: ‘He was an entrepreneur and the owner of a clothing brand and local fitness company. He was also a father-to-be, with a child due in five months.’

In October, two men in their 20s were shot in east London, with neighbours reporting hearing a vehicle ‘screaching away’.
